This is not your average vampire book or magical wonderland where there are magical creatures you would have never thought of. This is reality and it stands out in my world a lot. I am an orphan. I don't have red curls and my name is not Annie.
I was abandoned at age eight. My real parents are unknown and I lived on the run from orphanages. They wanted to catch me but I am nowhere to be found. I was found in an alleyway by a modern family. They were nice until I started to get older. I lost my cuteness and so they always muttered," She's useless. Why did we ever rescue her.....?"
I wasn't the only child in the house; my so called sister Angela wasn't any nicer either. She had bleach blonde hair and these ice- blue eyes that were so cold and heartless, you wouldn't even imagine she could ever love anyone. She always got what she wanted and nothing was ever her fault. She made fun of me at school and hurt me at home by calling me nasty names. I've heard worse though, being that I've gone through a lot on the streets.
Well if you could stand this sob story this long, I guess I should introduce myself. I am the unknown and ignored. Nobody ever knows I'm in their presence. I am Gabriella Mila Quintlock.
Let me start this story off by saying this: I am not weak. I am strong, strong because of the situation that was put in my hands. While you are reading this story, just remember that fact.
The first day, Angela strolled into the house as I sat curled on the couch in a ball. I had a good reason to be rolled up like that; every day Angela would waltz in and give me a rude comment and then talk about the latest boy who asked her out. That was a terrible day because I got an F on my test because as usual, I had my head stuck in a book the night before. So as I was saying, Angela came in and said,"So how was your day, fat stuff? Who asked you out? Oh wait, who would ask a chunk of fat like you out?" She laughed as I sighed and thought about tearing her hair out but then that would leave too much evidence and I would be grounded once again. Still, I smiled at the thought.
She plunked down on the couch and stared applying lip gloss and then started talking about the latest boy who asked her out: Jake Aspor. I inwardly gasped and tried to hide my sadness. Jake was my crush and I would give anything (even my Star Trek communicator) for him to ask me out. Of course, that would never happen because he was a cool guy and I was just a nerd. So she's blabbing to me that maybe she would say yes because he is cute but he's just not athletic enough. I cut in and said,"Well you shouldn't go out with him because when football season is over, he'll get fat." She looked at me for a moment and the said, "OMG Gab I think you just said something smart. You're so right! If he gets fat, my rep will get ruined! Ugh and sometimes I'm not completely mad that we took some idiot like you off the streets." I smiled and walked upstairs to my room thinking,"I'm smarter than I look."
I walked into my room and put my headphones on. Sometimes it was the only way to block out the world. I heard my favorite song on and I sang along. If only people knew... There's so much more to me than meets the eye. I always thought that maybe my musical talent would get me somewhere, get me more respect. But I always knew that someday, I would show them. Them, meaning the whole world.
But then there was Harris, my old friend from the streets. He was the only one I had and I have to admit, he was my family. As I thought about how I met him, and I remembered he was waiting for me. Every Friday, we met in an abandoned tree house in a park. I climbed out of my window and sprinted to the tree house.
As I climbed up, I heard him tapping his feet. Typical Harris. I peeked in and there he was, brown hair and brown eyes. I inwardly sighed and the thought of going out on the streets with him forever crossed my mind. But I knew he would never do that because how could he like a girl so pitiful as me? He saw me and smiled like I was the greatest thing he ever saw. I climbed in and sat on the floor and asked, "What are you so happy about?". He laughed gently and said, "You. Why wouldn't I be happy to see you?" I looked down, "But it's just me. I'm nothing special."
He lifted my head,"You have no idea what you're capable of, do you? You haven't figured out yet?" I lied," Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about..." I bit my lip." Good, because I need your help. I have traveled many places and I found one thing: the world is ending. And one other thing: you're the only one who can save us."
