"Alright. Class dismissed." The professor concludes. Ending his power point on Sleep Deprivation and Sleeping Disorders. Which is ironic because MaryGrace was on the verge of falling asleep. The fall semester was a two months in, meaning MaryGrace hadn't had a decent night of sleep since.
Not that she was insomniac or anything, just that her day consisted of waking up at 6 in the morning, and getting herself ready before her daughter, Hazel, woke up. At 7, she would wake up her daughter, get her dressed, make her breakfast, and make sure she washed her face and brushed her teeth. At 8, she would drop off Hazel at school, then proceed to school herself, working to obtain her Masters in Psychology. She sits through about two lectures a day, then works as a waitress from noon to around 7 or 8pm. After work, She picks up Hazel from her nanny and they go home where MaryGrace does housework, homework and care for her daughter until she falls asleep.
It was their usual routine, except on the weekends MaryGrace works all day Saturday, leaving Hazel with her nanny, and Sunday was a free day. Where MaryGrace gets to stay home with her daughter and work on her homework. It wasn't the ideal life, but she had to make the best of it.
She pulls up to Georgia's house, the nanny. MaryGrace gets out of the car and walks up the driveway.
"Mommy's here!" Hazel yells from the inside causing MaryGraces smile. Hazel then runs out of the house and into her mothers arms.
"Hey there dot." the mother greets, and places her back onto the ground. "I missed you today." She knelt down to talk to her daughter.
"Guess what?" Hazel asks
"What?" MaryGrace ask
"We finished Charlottes Web today at school!" Hazel exclaims
"Whoa! The whole chapter book?" MaryGrace asks, actually impressed that a child her age was able to read and comprehend a chapter book.
"Mmmmhm" Hazel says with a cheeky nod.
"Alright, Go get your stuff together and we can go home." MaryGrace says, taping her daughters butt.
Hazel ran back inside, giggling. She began to pick up her toys and books and places them back into her Hello Kitty backpack, while humming to herself.
"Hey Georgia," MaryGrace greets the sitter, giving her a hug
"Hey babe." Georgia says.
"So I get paid on Friday, then I will pay you for the week." MaryGrace promises. It was a struggle to pay for a nanny. Especially since MaryGrace is in school, and she has to pay for food and other bills as well. "Alright dot, you ready?"
"Mmmmhm" Hazel nods, skipping to the car. She sits in the backseat and straps herself into her car seat. MaryGrace pulls out of the driveway and they drive 20 minutes to their apartment complex.
The night routine consisted of making dinner, then giving Hazel a bath, having her brush her teeth and in bed around 8. Hazel would then pick a book of her choice and read to her mother rather then being read to. Because that is the type of child she is.
While her daughter slept, MaryGrace would do her homework, pay for bills and try to sleep herself.
