Chapter Thirteen

“Emilie, I’m sorry, this is proving more difficult than I imagined.”

“Figure it out. We need her to continue. Any luck Joshua” Emilie asked, ignoring her assistant.

“Not yet ma’am. You’ll be pleased to know that I got a job that will allow me to spend time near her and that silly family. Were they really necessary?” Josh replied.

“Of course they are. Don’t you trust my planning? This has taken years!” Emilie turns and walks across the conference room to the control board. She had called her former business partner’s son Joshua and her assistant and daughter, Victoria, back to headquarters. Kaylia was better than she expected, Victoira would be no match for her, it’s up to Joshua now. He has similar training and would hopefully be able to outsmart and capture the girl.

“Yes Emilie, I trust you completely. I just don’t understand why excluded Jon, it would be easier if he was in the family business, then Kaylia would be here as well.” Victoria asked.

“Victoria darling you know very well why your brother Jonathan cannot know. I do not have time to explain it again. Joshua go finish up your reports, I want you on a plane by 1900 at the latest. Victoria, I trust you have taken care of the arrangements for Arizona.”

With that Joshua nodded and left. Victoria picked up a stack of files on the table, smiled, and followed him out. Emilie knew her plan was foolproof. The girl doesn’t even act like the prodigy spy she supposedly is. If Jonathan ever found out-about this or his wife-he would personally hunt her down. It wouldn’t matter if she brought him into this world.

Emilie sighed and activated the conference room security as she left. They had a month in Arizona and then she was going in to get the job done if they failed. Time is precious nowadays. Who knows when her day will come?

Days at the academy have flown by. There was only three weeks left until finals and then another week until the annual Winter Ball. Everyone was abuzz finding dates and formal wear and prepping for the examinations. Kaylia had additional preparations as well, research for her upcoming time in Arizona. She kept in touch with the family through Andie’s email account, updating them on her ‘semester in London’. Rob sent her updates every other week, notifying about potential threats, stalkers, and other safety issues. So far nothing abnormal came about, it all seemed to be fan-related. But then again that’s how the best criminals operate, blending in seamlessly with the rest of society, never looking out of place. Kaylia did come across one worry-some detail. The band’s former drummer never even applied to the art school in France he got a full ride to. She tried emailing him but still has not received a response. After contacting the school a few days ago, she’s still awaiting their reply.

All right, I need to focus on preparing for my exams. I’ll ask Rob about the drummer though; the boys surely keep in touch. I need to stop having these stupid nightmares about that lady. I’m exhausted, I don’t know if I’ll make it to exams. No, I can do it. I’m Kaylia, I will just get over it and maybe drink some tea to help me sleep. On a side note I haven’t even begun to look for a dress for the Ball. Maybe I can get Abbie to help me!

Speaking of her, Kaylia has been trying to get Abbie and Ryan together before the Winter Ball. Well, she’s been hinting at Ryan to ask Abbie. But being a typical guy he still has no idea. Ugh, seriously how hard is it to get two people together! If he doesn’t ask her in a week I’m just going to make him. He seriously won’t stop talking about Abbie! Focus Kay, this is not your number one priority. Kay shaking her head and laughing to herself walked into her room and prepared for the next coming weeks. Hopefully her nightmares will go away and she can figure out this drummer situation.
