[Untitled : Chapter 9]

Kyle felt uncomfortable when he was called up to meet the director of InSPIRED©. He was just a manager of the sub department and he was fortunate to have his friend, Matthew who help him through the struggle with his previous project.

Meeting the director is either a good or bad thing. He knocked the glass door and enter the huge office.

Mr Henson, the mid-sized man smiled.

"You must be wondering why I called you." He broke the silence and continued playing with the pendulum he had. Kyle nodded.

"Well Kyle, I am very pleased with your performance, especially the previous project and I know you are really talented." Mr Henson continued.

I hope it will not turn out to be something bad, this sentence really freaking me out, Kyle thought.

"I want to promote you to be the head of the design department unit." He finally announced his decision.

"But I thought Matthew was supposed to be the one to get the promotion." Kyle managed to speak up with Mr Henson after debating in his mind, afterall Mr Henson was his employer.

"Unfortunately, the interior management found out that Matthew had stole some of the ideas and sold it to the other companies. We have decided not to let such betrayal to manage the department." Mr Henson explained.

Mat had done these, these few months the interior management had been figuring out who was the one who betrayed the company and Kyle could not believe it was Mat.

Mat, his best friend since high school and his partner at work. Kyle wanted to asked if it was the truth but he do know that the interior management and investigation were effective.

"Congratulations, you will be moving to your new office on Monday." Mr Henson broke his thought and was trying to end the conversation.

"Thank you, what about Matthew?" Kyle asked, he hope that Mat will not get fired do to his wrongdoings.

He know that Matthew had a son, Darren who have special needs and Mat need a stable job for the heavy life expenses and it was a huge burden since his wife had ran away when their son was only two years old.

"He will be receiving a letter and he will be leaving the company." Mr Henson replied showing a sad smile.

Kyle stopped and told Mr Henson about Matthew's life and hope that he could give him another chance, but Mr Henson refused.

Kyle walked backed to the office, he saw his friend sitting at his seat staring at the letter in his hands.

"Hey, how's the little chat with the director?" Matthew painted a sad smile on his face.

"It was fine." Kyle replied quietly.

"Fine?! Why did you do that to me Kyle? I'm the one who supposed to get the promotion and now it's yours. Do you know how much I need that promotion? I have always be there to help you when you need me and now you abandon me after using me? What does it mean friends?" Matthew face turned redder and looked angrier.

"I'm sorry Mat, I didn't know they will give it to me, I have ask a second chance for you, but Mr Henson refused. I will helped you with anything that you need." Kyle explained.

"Hell NO ! I should have know, I should not have help you!" Matthew stormed off with his box of belongings.

He's leaving, he still do not admit he had done wrong and this was this punishment, it should have been worst but the company knew about Darren.

Watching his friend leave, Kyle did not even enjoyed every bit. He felt that he was useless as he could not help his friend. He just stood there and watched every steps Mat took until it became a shadow.

They were in a nearby restaurant about ten blocks away from their offices.

"Congratulations." Linda leaned in to kiss Kyle.

He wondered when she could stop the act. Kyle had found out about her fake pregnancy last month when the clinic called to tell Linda had left her appointment card there, he was the one who picked up the call and went to collect it.

He met Dr Glendalein who was one of his college classmates, and when they were in a friendly catch up conversation, he found out about the truth. How coincidence?

"How about we have a spring wedding?" Linda broke his thought and he realised he had not been listening to what she was talking about.

"I'm afraid we have to call off the wedding preparation." Kyle tried to tell her politely.

"Why? Is it you will be busy with your work schedule? I can so the preparation." She asked with wide eyes disappointed.

"Is there something you should tell me?" Kyle asked looking in her eyes.

Linda was figuring it out, 'something that I should tell him. No I don't think I should, I don't know if we will still be together, but if I don't tell, I'm not being honest and it's really bad lying to him.'

Linda wanted to confess her mistake for lying but she ended up shook her head indicating that there was nothing.

"Why you want to fake the pregnancy?" He asked in a serious tone.

"I ... I ... didn't ... " She stammered.

He glared at her deadly.

"I thought if I fake the pregnancy, I can be with you, those days you had been avoiding me and I really don't want to break up with you." She answered.

Kyle just continued eating his dinner and after that he sent Linda home and went back to his apartment.

He took out all Linda's belongings and packed them in boxes, he could not live with a liar, but it reminds him he was that jerk who have hurt Jessica badly. He was that liar and now it feels like the karma had hit him hard.

He texted Linda that he will be sending the boxes to her apartment the next morning.

Kyle closed his eyes, what has him been thinking about those days? When the one who love him gave him chances to turn back, he just threw those opportunities away into the trash.

Now, with all the money he had, he cannot even buy a time machine to turn the clock back. He found out who he really love.

The girl he met at the bus stop on a rainy Friday the thirteen.
