scared of thunder.

It's storming outside. The sky's completely black and lights up at least once every minute as bolts of lightning strikes through the sky. The sky rumbles with screeching thunder which sounds like it's right above the house and the heavy rain falls upon the house, pattering loudly against the roof. It sounds like hail. It's freezing cold and windy, it sounds like the house is going to blow away at any second.

And then there's me. Little scaredy-cat Mikey all alone under the sheets and unable to sleep at all.

Thunder scares the heck outta me. It's too loud.

I checked the time 5 minutes ago, it said it was 4:12am. It's early and I'm tired and can't sleep.

This isn't good for 9 year olds. I shouldn't be up at this time and I shouldn't be this scared of storms. But I can't stand the sound. It attracts demons.

Another crack of thunder whips at the sky and I can't help but whimper and shuffle further under the sheets.

There's no way I'm going to sleep anytime soon. I need my big brother. I want him with me.

I crawl out of bed, running to the door and quietly opening it to not wake my parents up. Once it's open enough for my small body to slip through, I run out and to Gerard's room. His door is open so I go straight in. He's asleep on his bed. He's not wearing pajamas, he's just got some random black shirt and black tights on. His shaggy dark brown hair is sitting messily on the pillow his face is flat on.

I waddle over, cringing at the thunder outside. "Gerard?" I mutter.

He doesn't move.

"Gee?"

Still no movement. He's snoring peacefully.

I step on the tips of my toes and poke his arm. I keep poking it until he starts slightly shifting. "Gee?" I shake his arm, and thankfully I can tell he's waking up. "Gerard."

His eyes slowly open and his mouth parts open slightly, emitting a wet yawn. "Wha-?" He immediately sees me and his eyes widen. "Mikey? What's wrong?"

Before I could even say anything the sky lights up and lets out a rip of thunder, making me jolt and whine in fright. I don't even need to tell him before he knows exactly what's wrong. "Oh, Mikey." He hangs his legs over the side of the bed and puts his arms out for me. I automatically climb in them and he lifts me up and places me on his legs.

"Is the thunder scaring you?"

I nod.

"Come 'ere." He lifts me from under my arms and lies down, laying me down next to him. He pulls the sheets over me and I automatically curl up in a ball.

"There's no reason to be scared, Mikes." He assures me. He smiles and gives me a small ray of happiness.

"But demons are attracted to thunder!" I quietly yell with concern.

Gerard sighs. He puts an arm around me and brings me closer. "There's no such thing as demons, Mikey. Even if they were, I would never let them take the light behind your eyes." He snuggles me and places a small kiss on my forehead, making me safer within in instant.

I love my brother. I'm pretty sure he would do anything protect me. And I would do anything to protect him.

"Are you sure demons aren't real?"

Gerard chuckles softly, hugging me tight. "Yes Mikey, I'm sure. You're safe bro."

I soon after fell asleep snuggled in his arms; curled in a ball.
