The Beholder's Eye presents
THE WILL OF FIRE
Book One: The Serpent
Chapter One
I sat at the top of the building, feet dangling in the air. To an untrained eye I looked like a mere shadow, dressed in a black coat with a gigantic hood. Personally not my choice of wardrobe but safest to travel. I spun the ring round and round my finder, waiting. Patiently. And my patience seemed to pay off. I saw my targets: two men dressed in similar but pale blue coats. They were being o so cautious and for a moment I actually thought one of them was going to take a notice of me. But no, they weren’t that smart, dealers like them. And before they knew it, two white snakes wrapped around them in an Iron grip. I jumped off the building, landing with no impact at all.
“I believe you have something for me,” I said, doing my best to make my voice sound older.
“You? We don’t have anything for you, Shortie!” barked one of them. The snakes tightened.
“Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.”
“How’d ya know we was gonna be here!?” he barked again.
I made the snakes remove their hoods. Two middle-aged men. Nobody I knew and nobody worth the effort.
“I’ll just take the money and we’ll all go our separate ways.”
The man laughed and the silent one disappeared in a puff of smoke. I suddenly felt chains wrap around me and my hood slid off as well.
“A child,” said the other one with a calm voice. I preferred him. His talking didn’t make my head hurt.
“A little girl. I can’t believe we were being punked by a twelve-year old little girl,” laughed the other one. The Iron grip tightened and he had to gasp for air. At the same time I felt the chains around me tighten as well.
“I’d advise you leave the money. I don’t want to waste my chakra on you.”
“What’d ya say, Shortie!? We’ve got the upper hand here!”
“Your partner has the upper hand. You, however, are trapped. You are in no position to argue. And that snake is not my jutsu so it’ll finish you off even if I die.”
“A brat, e? What’d ya waiting for! Kill her! She’s all talk!”
“I strongly recommend you don’t do that. The one you’re paying your debt to is my friend and trust me; he’ll kill you without bother.”
“You brat! You’re lying, of course! Surely, you don’t know Master-“
“Hey punk, go pick on someone your own size!”
Behind the loud one suddenly appeared an even louder one. He had spiky blond hair and was dressed in orange. He was probably my age and he was wearing a Konohagakure headband. And suddenly, there was a sea of him running towards the guys. Just what I needed, a thousand Shadow Clones of a loud Ninja. The guy holding me hostage suddenly let go and ran. Coward. And here I thought he might be a Shinobi worth mentioning. A few clones chased after him while the others beat the hell out of big talker. I let the snakes slither away and waited while the spiky kid did his own thing. When the loud guy was beaten unconscious, I let one of the white snakes pick up the suitcase he was carrying and brought it over to me then vanished again.
“You ok?” asked the spiky kid after he was finished.
“Moron. You almost blew the whole thing.”
“What?” He seemed confused but he turned angry very fast. “You could at least be thankful, ya know! I saved your life out there!”
“Naruto!” Suddenly there was this pink-haired girl who started pummeling on the boy-Naruto, was it? “What do you think you’re doing, running off like that?!” She was so loud. I think I liked her least of all.
