I Bet It Stung

-Tegan POV-
It's been almost a month since she's been gone. The alcohol numbs everything and the cigarettes help fog over my memory until I'm back to drinking and forgetting her again. But it never lasts long.

I round the corner of 15th & Stout and slip through the front door of Leela's café, my usual weekend spot for drinking and picking up girls looking for a night of fun. I walk straight to the bar and order a beer to get the night going.

-Several hours later-
I down the last shot of the night and throw my cash on the counter, grabbing the girl I had chatted up about an hour ago. We stumble down the street to my apartment and crawl up the stairs.

Pushing the key into the lock, I twist and open it leaving us falling over each other into the living room. I pull off the tall red heads jacket and I kick off my shoes as we make our way to my room. She pulls off her pants and I do the same, leaving us both fully unclothed.

After a night of sloppy drunk sex and clumsy kissing we both fall asleep.

I wake to a bright light in my eyes, and a ringing, pounding pain in my head. I look over to see a beautiful girl laying next to me still fast asleep. She's pretty but I won't be caught dead still in bed the night after a hook up.

I throw on my clothes from the night before and scribble a quick note, "It would be best for you to leave before I get back. Don't call me and don't try to have any contact with me after this. Thanks for last night though."

I grab my keys and rush out the door, going down the stairs as quickly as possible. I get in my small car and start it up, pulling out of the parking lot and driving down the street.

I pull up to a small house and walk up to the porch, banging on the door. I wait a moment before the door opens and my sister Sara smiles back at me.

"Well hey there stranger." She grins and steps aside, making room for me to walk into her small home.

"What's up with you today sis? I hope you're not doing much because you're coming it with me tonight."

"What? Why? I was planning on staying in, it's a Sunday and I don't want to be out too late-"

"Stop," I cut her off and she looks confused. "You're coming with me and that's it, I don't feel like going alone again tonight. You're a good drinking buddy."

She smiles and shakes her head, giving me her signature smile. I laugh and pull out a cigarette, lighting it and offering one to Sara.

"Get ready, we're leaving before 7:00." I smile. She places the cigarette behind her ear and I walk into her kitchen. I sit on the counter and zone out. Before I know it I've finished my cigarette, twisting it out into the closest ashtray.

I walk back into the living room and sit on the couch, Sara rushing out of the bathroom as fast as she can.

"Are you ready? We're going to be late, it's already 6:40."

"Oh shit, let's go." We rush out of the house and into my car, peeling out of the driveway and onto the street.

-At the cafè-
"Is this a gay bar? I never realized how many girls are in this café before. Hot ones too." Sara takes a sip of her martini and I smile.

"Yeah, I know. Where do you think all of the girls I hook up with come from?"

She laughs and takes another drink, calling the bartender over for another. I lean back in my chair and scan the room, looking for any attractive girls that I may take a liking to.

I turn to my right and my heart stops. A girl with beautiful blonde hair cut to a medium length bob sits in a booth across the room from me. Her eyes are a rich dark brown, and her lips are a light shade of pink. Her dress is short and black with no sleeves. She looks up as I catch myself staring and my cheeks burn up.

I look away and grab my drink, taking a big gulp of it.

"Is something wrong?" I look up at Sara. She has a confused look on her face.

"I uh.. N-no I'm fine. I just need another drink I guess." I smile and down the rest of my drink, signaling for another.

I grab my new drink from the bartender and take a sip, looking back at the mystery woman. She's beautiful. I meet a lot of attractive girls, but something about her was different. Her cheekbones, her mouth, the shape of her nose. Everything was... Perfect.

I've never had this feeling about a girl in a bar before. Not since Lindsay. I begin to swim in my thoughts as I take another long sip of my drink. I light a cigarette and the night flies by as I process everything drink by drink.
