~Karmin's POV~
"Mom, I got accepted into Berkeley!" I shout excitedly, waving the acceptance letter in my hand, while jumping up and down.
"You did?" my mom gasps grabbing the letter from my hands. Her eyes scan over it quickly, and her face lights up. "Honey, I'm so proud of you!" she exclaims wrapping her arms around me.
"Thank you," I say and hug her back.
She pulls away and puts her hands on my shoulders. "My baby's going to college," she smiles tearing up a bit.
"Don't cry, Mom, please," I frown.
"I know, I'm sorry," she chuckles wiping the tears from her eyes. "It's just that you're growing up, and Donny already left, and soon it will be Tiana and Kaitlynn, and then I'll be all alone," she rushes out.
"You won't be alone, Mom. I'll find you a boyfriend," I grin and she rolls her eyes.
"Why don't you call Zayn, and see if he got accepted?" she suggests.
"Oh," I sigh. "He's going to New York City College. He's studying music," I tell her. Zayn has always been very musically talented. He'd occasionally get a few gigs here and there, but I know he's going to be big someday. He plays instruments, writes his own music, and is very vocally talented. He's pretty much the whole package.
Her face falls slightly, but then she puts a small smile on for my sake. "Well, I'm sure you two will make it work. Let's celebrate tonight, yeah?" she asks and I give her a nod with a smile.
"Sounds great. I'm going to call him," I say and run up the stairs. I pull out my phone and dial his number.
I wonder how Zayn and I will make long distance work. We've never been away from each other for more than a week.
"Hey Kare Bear, I was just about to call you," he says. I can hear the smile in his face.
"Oh, well I have some good news," I cheer.
"Oh really? Does it involve a certain girl getting into Berkeley?"
"How did you know?" I ask and he chuckles.
"Rae told me," he says.
"Well, I'll have to call her and remind her that she ruined the surprise," I giggle. I fall back onto my bed with my phone still in hand.
"I got into New York," he says and I know he's smiling.
"That's amazing, Zayn! I knew you would get in!"
"Thank you, Karmin. You were probably my biggest supporter. I don't know how to thank you enough. You were the one that convinced me to apply," he says and I can feel the heat rushing to my cheeks.
"You still would've made it in the music industry either way, so there's no need to thank me," I tell him.
"Well I'm still thanking you. I don't know what I'd do without you."
I grin, feeling happy that we had finally worked out our problems. The big misunderstanding in Vegas, and the problem with Celia.
The thing was, Zayn's parents had split up a few months ago, and his dad took everything, and was nowhere to be found. Zayn's mom was struggling with bills, and buying her children necessities. Being a single mom with four children isn't easy. If she didn't get caught up on everything, they would've lost their house, their car, everything. Zayn went out and found a "job" to help his struggling mother. Celia bribed him to give her what she wants, and she would get money from her dad and give it him. Her dad was a multimillionaire, and wouldn't notice a few thousand dollars going missing. I told him that I could help, I had about a thousand dollars saved up, but of course he refused. I'm just glad that everything is okay now.
"Thank you, Zayn," I tell him.
"Come over later?" he suggests.
"I will. Maybe you can play me that knew song you wrote," I grin, even though he can't see me.
"I'll think about it," he laughs. "Love you."
"I love you too," I say before hanging up.
I suddenly get an incoming call from Amanda. I click the green answer button.
"Hello?" I ask curiously.
"Get over to the hospital, now," she says her voice urgent.
"What? Why? Is everything alright?" I ask frantically, sitting up in the bed.
"Just get over here, it's urgent." Click.
I run down the stairs and slip my shoes on, grabbing my keys in the process.
"I'll be back later, Mom!" I call before exiting.
I speed over to hospital, the place that I've seemingly been to a lot in the few weeks. After what feels like forever, I finally get there and rush inside.
I spot Amanda's blonde hair and rush over to her. Raelynn is sitting in a chair crying, Amy's comforting her, and Ashlynn is wearing a worried expression.
"What happened?" I ask Amanda.
She pulls me into her arms, holding me tightly. "I'm so sorry," she cries.
"What the hell happened?!"
"It's Donny. Flower Bitch hurt him, and it's not good," she explains.
"What did she do to my brother?" I ask angrily.
Amanda's face twitches with fear.
"Tell me," I say lowly through clenched teeth.
"She got some guys to jump him. Rae saw the whole thing. They almost killed him." A tear rolls down her cheek.
I suddenly feel light headed, and nearly fall over. Someone catches me before I do. My brother, targeted by Flower Bitch. I'm going to kill her.
