After a few moments of incredulous silence, Adrian started laughing. Not the kind of friendly ' Ha! i knew you were kidding' kind of laughter.  But the sound you might here come out of a bully might laugh at his prey.

"Surely," He said catching his breath. "You don't believe that could ever happen. Please tell me you are kidding." As he sobered she glared at him.

"Why would i kid about something like that?" She asked eyeing him blades still raised.

"Maybe," He said stepping forward, she lowered the blades, "Your just trying to impress me, show me that your not one of these giggly little skirt flippers of the palace."

"Maybe." She said in a whisper as she pressed him up against the table behind him. Before her could react she dropped the sword behind her leg and caught it in the crook of her knee. With her free hand she grabbed the hilt of another dagger and she pinned his sleeves down on the wood with the two blades. Letting her leg down the sword slid to her ankle, she kicked up and caught the hilt of the sword behind her back without looking. She sliced the blade around at him yet again. "Or maybe your just a conceited palace brat whom i misjudged and decided i should trust. Believe me i will not make that mistake again." Lowering the sword and placeing it into its niche on the wall she left. Climbing the winding stairs to her room she closed the door behind her and finally breathed fully for the first time. She may regret loosing her temper like that, he may report to the General, who would report to the queen. Which could mean Aralynn was out of her position and her family no longer go the money she earned from the job. Aralynn dressed into her night clothes and climbed into her huge feather bed. As it consumed her she watched the stars, she sang the old song her father used to sing her when she and her borther were young. Her eyelids fell and she fell into a dreamless sleep.
