The brisk cold air of Pennsylvania in November brushed my bare arms, making me wish I had worn a jacket. My curly hair flew away from my face from a huge gust of wind as I swung the heavy glass door to the cafe open; it was times like this I was thankful for the warmth of the coffee shop. I spotted Natalie at a small table, sipping from a paper cup in her hand. She smiled as she saw me cross the cafe to her table.

"Hey, Caroline. I'm glad you're here on time," said Natalie, sarcasm dripping from her words, regarding the fact I was fifteen minutes late to our weekly Tuesday morning meet up.

I sighed as I sat down on the chair across from her. "Look, I am sorry, okay? I tried to leave ten minutes earlier than usual but I got stuck by a freight train."

She shrugged, her green eyes smiling at me as she sipped her coffee. "It's fine. So how is your family?"

"Okay, I guess. I mean my sister is still on her honeymoon and my brother, well, he is always at Nicole's house," I responded. "Which is fine and all, unless of course-" I broke off, realizing something did not look right on Natalie's face. "Natalie? Are you okay?!"

She had just taken another sip of her coffee and now her face was scrunched up, looking like she tasted something strange. Natalie started gasping for air. My heart leaped up into my throat, panic rising inside of me.

"Natalie, this is not funny!" I was angry she would try to make a cruel joke like this, knowing how gullible and panicked I get, when I realized she had her hands clamped around her neck, communicating to me she could not breathe. I stood up in full on panic mode. "HELP! HELP! SOMEONE CALL 911, she can not BREATHE! HELP!"

People all around the coffee shop looked over in wonder, and as they took in the horrifying situation, some jumped up to help as fast as they could. But it did not matter, because only seconds later Natalie collapsed to the floor, her eyes rolling back and her heart beat inaudible.
