"V!" I heard them call me. I waved at them and run towards them. Today was a friendly match between high schools here in Sta. Catalina. There are five high school in this place namely: East High, West High, Cloud High, Gem High and Southbound High.
"Are you ready?" asked our team captain who is called by the name Patricia Smith. She's 6ft tall, has a hazel brown eyes and a very dark long hair which she prefer to be pony tailed.
"Yeah" I said. I'm Violet Taylor, the third youngest of the team and I'm in my sophomore year now. I'm 5ft 10inches tall and I have a curly blonde hair and a very beautiful blue eyes.
"Then let's go" Helen said. Her complete name is Helen Martin and she's in her junior year just like Patricia. She's 5ft 11inches tall and has a dark eyes and a light brown curly hair.
"Who's our opponent?" I asked realizing I don't even know if I'm going to play in this match. By the way, I'm talking about the tennis friendly match.
"Southbound High" Laura answered. She's Laura Rodriguez, out data girl. Every game, she records what she observes and debrief us after the game. She's 5ft tall and has a beautiful blonde hair and an amazing ocean blue eyes.
"What will be our position, captain?" I asked Patricia. She pulled out a piece of paper and started reading it.
"Carla and Luna will be doubles 2 and Michelle and Mina will be doubles 1" Patricia said.
"V, you'll be singles 3" Patricia said which made me cough.
"What? Can I atleast be on singles 2?" I asked. Patricia shook her head and continued.
"Laura will be singles 2 and Helen singles 1" Patricia said.
"What about you?" I asked.
"I'll be observing together with our freshmen" Patricia said. Well, we have two freshmen in our team namely: Sarah Jones and Kimberly White. Sarah is quite a mystery to me. She's so quiet yet when she speaks, her words have deeper meanings. Kimberly on the other hand is the opposite of Sarah. She's a jolly person and takes everything as a game.
"Do your best" Kimberly said and we all nodded."What are you ladies doing here?" We all look at our coach. I raised an eyebrow when I saw her face.
"Are you going to play or stay here and have a chitchat?" she asked while her hands are on her hips. This made us realize that our game will be starting soon. We immediately carried our bags and things and started walking towards the ova. Coach Hannah is a one loving coach and a very talented one.
"Why aren't you playing today?" I heard Coach Hannah asked. I looked in her way and saw that she's asking Patricia.
"I'm not feeling quite well today coach" Patricia answered. Liar. She's totally fine but she wants to know if the team can go on without her. I remember she told me she's going somewhere for this school year. After a few minutes of walking, we finally arrived at the registration. Coach handed the paper to the one in charge and we went down to the ova. As we move down, we hear chears of the audience. As we pass through our opponent, I saw one of them smirking at us.
"Let's see who will be smirking after the game bitch" Helen said and I laughed.
"That's enough. Go for a warm up" Coach Hannah said. The seven of us went for a jog and then stretched our bodies. After five minutes of stretching, the referee whistled.
"Let's begin the match between West High and Southbound High" the referee said. Carla and Luna prepared themselves and went to the court. Two familiar figure also went inside the court. I covered my mouth when their names registered on my mind.
"What's wrong?" I heard Patricia asked.
"Coach!" I shouted ignoring Patricia's question.
"What?" Coach Hannah asked. I approached her.
"It's Bea and Trixia" I said. Coach nodded and went to her seat. I went back to my seat.
"What the hell was that?" Patricia asked me.
"It's Bea and Trixia" I said pointing to the other court. Her eyes widened.
"How come they're here?" Patricia asked. She also know what happened back on her sophomore year.
"Do you think they'll do it?" Patricia asked.
"I don't know but it's better to be prepared" I answered. The whistle sound was heard and the game began. I watch carefully and hoping my gut is wrong. After the service of our team, the game went smooth without any accident.
"I think nothing bad will happen" Patricia said.
"I think so" I said. After an hour, the game is now over and our team won. I heaved a sigh for nothing dangerous happenned. I approached our opponent's lair. Everyone of them is staring at me.
"What are you doing here?" a lady with dark brown eyes and dark curly hair asked me.
"I just want to ask Bea and Trixia" I answered which made the two look at me.
"Ask us what?" Bea asked.
"Why?" I asked them.
"Revenge is a cruel thing. It only makes things more messy than it used to be" Trixia answered.
"Thank You" I said and smiled at them.
"It's you that we should give our thanks. Without you, we've never had gone this far" Bea said.
"Glad to help" I said and left. The referee blow his whistle again and the second match begins.
"What was that?" Patricia asked when I arrived at my seat.
"Some things need closure" I said and smiled at her. She smiled back at me and we watched the next game. The second match was a very intact one. Both teams are doing their best.
"40-30" the referee announced. Our team is on the lead but our opponent is the one serving. They need to win this service in order to win this match. Mina and Michelle suddenly changed their technique.
"What are you guys doing?!" Patricia shouted.
"Have faith in them Patricia" I said and Patricia looked at me confused.
"Look at their eyes" I said.
"Now you see what's going on. Tell me your still in doubt" I said.
"Those eyes. They're synchronized" Patricia said. The most beautiful thing to happen for a double is synchronization. Their movements will be the same and their minds will be one. The referee realeased a long whistle saying the game is over. Our team was happy for we won twice in a row.
"You know what this means" Patricia said.
"I know. One more win and we'll be advancing to championship" I said.
"No pressure here, V" Patricia said. This is our first match but the winner in this match will be advancing to championship 'cause Gem High withdrew and nobody knows why. The referee called our names and we proceeded to the court.
"Good luck V" they all said. I smiled at them and went inside the court."You're my opponent?" the lady from before asked. The one that asked me when I went into their laire.
"What's wrong? Scared?" I teases.
"No" she said and served the ball. At first I wasn't able to return her service.
"Who's scared now?" she asked smirking. I smiled and transferred my racket to my left.
"You're left handed?" she asked as she serves the ball.
"I thought you knew" I answered and returned the ball adding more spin to it which made her racket came flying. Everyone was shocked and I can see anger in her eyes. She picked her racket and began serving again.
"This is for what you did" she said and I could feel a strong force around the ball. I used both of my hands to return it. I felt my hands go numb and my racket fell down. I stretched both my hands and picked my racket. The game continued and I'm on the lead when suddenly I felt again the numbness of my hands. My racket fell down again and I look at my hands. What's happening to me?
"V!" I heard them shout. I picked my racket and smiled at them.
"I'm alright" I said. Two more and I'll win this. The opponent serve another strong ball and I again used both of my hands to return it. The moment the ball touches my racket, I felt my hands went numb but I managed to return it adding more spin making her racket flew the second time.
"50-40" the referee announces. One more and we'll be the winner. She served the ball with less force so I need not use my both hands. We played our last ball for five minutes. I hit the ball with a chop and to my surprise she add more spins to the ball which made it stronger than before. I used both of my hands to return it and it was a successful return which nearly hit my opponent's face. I hear cheers from the audience. I smiled and dropped my racket and my whole body went numb and I can feel I'm falling. I closed my eyes and let myself fall down.
