BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
God, I really fucking hate alarm clocks. I rolled off my mattress onto the cold carpeted floor and army crawled over to my brother, Gavin's, bed. He slept through the alarm every morning so I always had to wake him up. I leaned in next to his ear and started just talking.
"So it's that time of day again where we have to wake up and go to school... Yeah, I know I hate it too. But, hey, it's your first day of high school, and my first day as a senior! Think of all the hot new older girls you get to start eyeing! But don't forget the moment your grades start slipping both mom and I will have your ass. and I'm sure Danny"-- our oldest brother who has already finished school-- " will too."
"UGH! Will you shut the fuck up already I'm trying to sleep!" He groaned into his pillow. I laughed and stood up to stretch. I nudge as hard as I could without hurting him with my foot and forced him to roll over so that the sun was shining right in his face. He let out an irritated groan and finally got up.
I looked over to Danny's mattress and saw that it was empty and made. He must already be at the auto shop.
I pulled open a drawer and pulled out two plain white t-shirts, tossing one at Gavin's head. Doing the same with some old pairs of jeans that we had. We both got ready in the bathroom, fighting for some room to brush our teeth and wash our faces.
Gavin and I had similair face structures but still looked completely different. Gavin had our dad's dark brownish red hair and I had mom's plain dark brown hair. Our eyes were the same shape but where as his were mom's grey mine were grandpa's dark brown. Our noses the same but my mouth was thinner than his. When we were little Danny and I used to joke that his lips were so big that they would fall off to the point where he would cry, but as we got older he grew into his features.
We raced eachother down the stairs trying to get first dibs on the bacon and eggs mom had set out for us before taking off to work at Joe's Diner. We munched and munched, not saying much to eachother before taking off to school.
Same stuff as usual happened. Hung out with my best friend, Link, went to class, ate lunch, eyed the new kids at school. I did good in school, yeah, but I didn't care for it. I knew what I wanted to do all my life and I didn't need some stupid degree to do it. Once I was finally able to graduate I could start running the shop for Danny so he could finally move away and start his family with his girlfriend, Natalie, who had to move away for college.
The final bell finally rang and i hopped into my car, Link and Gav following close behind. "So," Link began, " there's a new girl in our area boys."
"Yeah, who?" Gav asked.
"Don't know yet, but she Maury's new neighbor, i guess. But apparently she's gonna start school tomorrow, I don't get why she just didn't start today, but whatever that's besides the point. Maury was telling me during history that she's hot! Like extra hot. So what do you guys think? Think I have a shot?"
"Link, you wouldn't have a shot with a gun." Gavin simply stated. I burst out laughing as I pulled into the garage. I tossed my keys into the managers office and heard them clank against the desk like I did everyday. I could see Danny's beat up old vans sticking out from underneath an old chevy malibu. He slid out from underneath as we walked up and he had grease stains all over his face and around his protective glasses.
"Good you're here. Put on some overalls. I need you guys to replace the coils in that chrysler over there and theres something wrong with that ford truck's exhaust pipe. Go get started." He rolled back under the car and started working again. Link and Gav were already pulling on their overalls when I started walking towards them but at the last second Danny stuck his foot out at tripped me. "What the fuck?!" I bellowed as I caught myself on the side of the car.
