Chapter 2

The entrance hall was huge and there were some people hanging around but most of them were giving out maps and helping other new comers. I approached a girl who was open and tried to looked at least somewhat friendly.

"Um, Miss do you by chance know where I'm suppose to go and how to get there." I asked shyly.

"All the new kids are suppose to go to the PAC (performing arts center) and find their seat but don't worry here's a map and we are right here," she said circling a part of the map, "and you need to go here" while circling a different part of the map.

"Thank you" I replied. Then I hurried off to the PAC. Once I got to the PAC I heard nothing but whispering from all the kids there (that filled almost all the seats). I found out that the seats were in alphabetical order so went towards the middle rows looking for a row with K in it. I got there quickly and found that it was combined with the letters J to L. Looking just at the first letters I went down the row until I got to Kandell and saw there were two kandells Josh Kandell and me. With Josh being first alphabetically he was closer to the row opening so I had to pass him to get to my seat.

Once I got to my seat I sat down and before my butt even touched the seat I put my ear buds in. Even though most of the time I never turn the music on, I know I should since everyone here would know if it's on or not, and then they might actually try and talk to me. While turning on my iPod (and hoping it still has power) I notice Josh turning towards me about to talk to me. It isn't turning on, why isn't it turning on. I don't want to talk to him or anyone else. Then my iPod does the impossible and shows the no power symbol and I cringe now knowing that people can and will talk to me.

"Hi I'm Josh"

"I know"

"How do you know? Are you a stalker?"

"There is a name tag on the seat with your name on it, and why would I stalk you. There are plenty of other men more stalk worthy than you." I said bored.

"What's that suppose to mean." Josh replied indignantly.

"What" I said in a bitter tone.

"Plenty of other men more stalk worthy." He said.

"Oh. Just that there are tons more handsome and hotter looking guys here than you and they would be a better choice to stalk." I replied even though I knew that wasn't true even with most of the people here looking like models he was probably in the top 10 or possibly 5 hottest men here.

"That just hurts but I will get you to take that back before the end of the school year and make you swoon over me. So tell something about yourself Kayla. Do you have any nick names or hobbies?" He said very annoying and I really want to punch him in the face right now but I don't want an enemy at the beginning of the school year and plus I don't want to be kicked out already.

"First of all it will never happen, second thing is I don't see how any of your business. And third of all do you by any chance know when the headmaster will be up I want to get this over with and get away from you."

"Any time now." he said just as Headmaster Honewort toke the stage and the last whispers dying down.

"Welcome students to your first year at AYS. Let me first tell you that some of you think since your parents have a high status in money or rank you will pass all your classes, or not get out of trouble. Well you thought wrong. Once you stepped on to school property every one stopped caring and I do not want to hear about anything of the sort. The next matter at hand is that we need to know every ones shifter status and for those of you who don't know the different types of shifters and they are shifter, elemental, and vogue. Today and tomorrow we are going to be calling people up to test to what type of shifter you are and help set up your schedule. Most of you will know what type of shifter you are but since some people lie about their rank we have to test you. Also those days will be free days so use them to get use to your surroundings. Then on Thursday the return student will arrive and you will get your schedule and start classes," Headmaster Honewort then went on about the history of the school and why it's in this location which I already knew from reading it in the car so I dosed off after that.

"This is the last thing you need to know, before you leave under your seats are your key cards with your dorm room numbers and sections. The floors are separated with girls on a level then boys on the next then girls again and so on. If you have any questions there should be some past students in the hall and you can ask them any questions you have. I will be calling people up to test them now and I need Nick Adams," as the headmaster said the last thing I saw a boy in the front row get up and follow the head master to his office. Then reaching under my seats I pull the key card with the room number 10.

"So what room number are you in" said a girl next to me whose name according to her name tag is Holly.

"Uh, 10. What about you?"

"I should be down the hall from you at in number 16. Do you what to come with me to the dorms I get a little nervous in new places." she said.

"I get nervous all the time when I'm around new people, so sure. Are the dorms through that door," I said pointing to the door on the left. "Or that one" pointing to the one on the right.

"I think it's the left one" Josh said walking up behind us scaring the shit out of me.

"I think he's right. Do you know this guy?" said holly in a confused voice

"Sadly yes, His name is Josh. He was sitting on the other side of me during the announcement thing and he is very annoying and also seems to be arrogant and selfish."

"Hey." Josh said affined

"That's what I think and most of the time when I get a feeling about a person its normally right. Come on lets go." I said while pulling Holly with me out the door.

"So do you think our names might get called today? I hope they do. I don't think I could wait until tomorrow to be called. Even though I think I know what type of shifter I am but it won't be final until the test. What do you think the test will be? Will we have to shift? I hope we don't because it still hurts when I shift. What do you think." Holly said at first slow but then the sentences got slurred together from talking so fast.

"Well what I think is that you need to lay off the sugar and for the rest I have no absolute clue" I said.

"Yeah I've been told that a lot about the sugar. It's just when I get nervous I don't talk a lot then I get a little hyper once I'm not nervous anymore."

"I can tell. Do you know where the cafeteria is? I'm hungry."

"I think it's on the way to the dorms. Are you actually hungry or are you trying to hold off meeting your roommate?

"Both and I haven't eaten lunch."

We walked to the cafeteria in silence besides trying to figure out which way to turn. Once we got there I saw an ice cream machine I partially ran to it and got a bowl and filled it to the top with chocolate soft serve ice cream. I saw that Holly doing the same but with vanilla. Then we walked to the nearest table noticing that all the tables were black, round, and had eight chairs around them.

While we ate Holly talked about pretty much everything about herself like how she has 2 older brothers and one younger brother and how most of her family are shifters with about half being elemental and the other half being regular shifters with some humans and vogue shifters scattered around her family tree. I was thankful for all of her nonstop talking though because that meant I didn't have to talk about myself which I plan on keeping to a minimal. Holly talked for hours (with some breaks when the intercom came on for people to get test being called by the tens) and continued until after dinner with me commenting on some things here and there . Until the intercom came on right as I finished my food saying people's names I was only half listening to in till they called "Josh Kandell and Kayla Kandell. This will be the last bunch for today. "

"I guess I got to go. See you later Holly. Do you want to meet me for breakfast at 10?"

"Sure. I'll be in my room if you need me later."

With that I threw away the rest of my food and went to find my way to the headmaster's office.
