"Blurryface, by Twenty one pilots." She says, her voice small. I hear a crash and turn my head to see the other costumer bending down to pick up a game he dropped.
"Alright, I'll get it from the back." I say kindly and quickly walk backwards to the stock room. The other costumer gives me a strange look, but I smile at him to ease the tension that's quickly skyrocketing in the small shop. I can tell newbie feels it, too, her face turning into an uncomfortable frown.
"Uh, about yesterday... " She speaks up about the elephant in the room and a blush creeps up her neck and cheeks as soon as the words leave her lips. I almost feel bad, but can't help the smile on my lips when she looks so cute. I didn't think she would remember, but her embarrassed features give her away.
"I thought maybe we can just try to be friends, you know? I don't want things to be awkward now." I tell her honestly and she seems to understand. I thought long about last night, but really, I hate this drama and I'd like to just be chill with everyone.
"Yeah sure." She agrees, nodding her head to emphasize it. I bag her gift quickly, wishing her a nice day and she nods with a small smile before leaving the shop. Grabbing my phone, I start playing games again but I feel somehow sad that she left already. Working at the shop gets boring and the costumers aren't very entertaining either, except for her. She can come back anytime, that girl really is something.
When I come home, I prepare a dish in the oven and enjoy my meal in silence. On days like this you really learn to appreciate the silence and peace it brings to not have a roommate rushing about. Darly is decent enough, she's tidy and she doesn't bother me at all, but sometimes I would like someone to watch a movie with me. I end the day with some romantic comedy and fall asleep soon enough, thinking of a certain brunette that I can't manage to figure out.
Monday rolls around too quickly once again but I welcome the distraction. I spent an entire Sunday afternoon on an essay for Creative Writing.
The weather is unforgiving today, the wind blowing harshly. I quite enjoy it, my beanie and scarf keeping me warm enough. Lily doesn't enjoy the cold weather as I do, clad in her biggest and warmest sweater she looks even smaller than she is. It makes me laugh slightly when I order my drink, her small form drowning in the fabric when she moves around.
"Good morning!" I chirp, my usual sour morning mood long gone with the smell of coffee beans. Lily rushes around to prepare my drink and I make small talk, asking her about her girl crush but she avoids my questions.
"Nah don't change the subject!" I chuckle and she grimaces, grabbing my drink and setting it in front of me with a professional smile.
"Alright." She laughs softly, beckoning me to come closer so she can whisper. There aren't many costumers, but I know she doesn't like them butting in on her private life.
"She might have asked me out on a date." She speaks, cheeks tinting pink while she smiles a smile so warm it could melt ice. I internally fangirl, but trying to play it off cool I just smile and congratulate her to which she turns even more pink and ushers me out of her shop jokingly. I comply anyway, knowing I need to get going if I don't want to be late. Saying my goodbyes, I go back out into the cold; this time armed with a scalding hot coffee in my hands to keep me warm.
I reach the building too soon for my liking, and step into the dull room. Most of the seats are empty as always, and the ones that are occupied have mostly students sleeping on them. I sit down in the back, ignoring them all and settling down my note book that's filled with more drawings than actual notes, but hey, at least I'm here and awake (for now, that is).
