~Present- 2013~

It's half past two in the afternoon. Me and my best friend Gabby are texting .

"What story R U gonna do for the LA project?-G"

"I don't know I was thinking about doing a version of little red riding hood from the wolfs perspective. What R U gonna do?- K"

"I dunno, I was just gonna get a copy of someone else's and take all the credit for it :) - G"

I smiled, Gabby was crazy but she new how to get good grades without working. I was just going to text her back when my mom came into my room and handed me a perscription.

" -Katrina, I need you to pick up your Grandmas prescription and bring it down to her," my mom said to me, " do you think you can do that for me?"

My name is Katrina but my friends call me Kat.

"Yes mom, I think I can handle it." I replied sarcastically.

I quickly told Gabby that I had to go and that I would talk to her later. Then I grabbed my purse and headed outside to get the medicine. Grandmas getting old and isn't allowed to drive anymore so I go and pick up her medication a lot. I don't mind though. I like to go out and drive through New York. I stopped at the pharmacy and gave in the perscription. They told me it wouldn't be ready for a while so I decided to look around some of the nearby stores.

While I was window shopping I saw a gorgeous red leather jacket that I had to try on. It was absolutely stunning. The red contrasted perfectly with my dark brown hair and made my eyes look a bright yellow colour.

Everyone said I had my dad's eyes. But I wouldn't really know, since he left when I was very little. Any pictures of him that my mom had we're put away somewhere in the basement because she said it hurt to much to see him. I had been down to the basement as often as I could without my mom becoming suspicious but so far I hadn't found anything that I could tie back to my dad.

I desperately wanted to by the jacket but I was broke since Gabby and I had gone shopping. That girl should go into sales, because she could convince you to but anything, and I mean anything. I stepped out of the shop and was going to go pick up Grandmas medicine and dreaming up ways to get that's jacket when I ran into a tall man that appeared to be in his forties, with sandy brown hair and the most beautiful golden eyes.

"Whoa there, girl!"

The mans voice shocked me out of my stupor. After a few moments I snapped back to reality and answered him.

"I'm so sorry sir I hold have been looking where I was going."

I said hastily.

" It's no problem really," he said with an easygoing, yet contagious smile, "I hope I didn't startle you!"

"No, no I'm fine I was just daydreaming," I replied, " my names Katrina by the way, but you can call me Kat." For some reason I felt as though I could trust this man.

"My names Nathaniel," he said brightly, " it's nice to meet you. He shook my hand clumsily and soon we were talking about all sorts of things. He told me he he'd a daughter and a wife that he hadn't see in over 15 years because of some medical condition. I soon found myself telling this man about the father that I never new an my search for any kind of information about him. As I told him Nathaniel started to pale. " what's your last name Kat?" He asked while his voice shook.

"Varley?" I said with a confused tone. Why had he suddenly gotten so scared? He seemed so scared as he nodded his head "that's what I thought." He said as he pulled out his wallet. "Here, take this and buy yourself something nice." He said as he handed me a fifty dollar bill.

"I-I can't take this!" I stuttered out.

"Of course you can," he said, "consider it a thank you for keeping me company." Then he walked away while I stood there dumbfounded.
