It was light outside when I opened my eyes. I turned over and groaned. I had a roaring headache and I still felt terrible. I was hoping that once I woke up I would feel much better but unfortunately that was not the case.
Alfie wasn't in the bed next to me and when I looked at the clock I realised why. It was already noon. Upon seeing the time I groaned again, I hated sleeping in late. It made me feel like I was missing out on so much of the day.
Since I was sick, I felt like the biggest burden to Alfie and his family so I decided to get dressed and try to help clean up around the house even though I felt like complete crap. I got dressed in sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt. I put my hair up in a messy high bun and dragged my feet out of the room and downstairs.
Poppy was sitting on the couch with her laptop sitting on her lap. She had her phone out as well. She looked up when I walked in. "Morning Zoe," she said with a smile.
"Morning," I said forcing a smile back. I was about to ask her where Alfie was when I heard a loud sound from the kitchen and quickly deduced that that must be where he was. I followed the loud sounds and sure enough, found Alfie standing at the stove cooking something.
I walked up behind him and wrapped my hands around his waist resting my head on his shoulder. He jumped at first but the relaxed turned around my face me.
"Morning gorgeous," he said with a smile leaning in to kiss my gross and sickly face.
"Morning," I mumbled kissing him back.
"Oww!" he said jumping forward a bit. I had pushed him back so that his hand was touching the hot pan. I jumped back as well.
"Oh Alfie, I'm so sorry," I said softly rushing over to the freezer to get some ice. I opened up the door and was blasted with cold air. I reached my hand in and grabbed a few cubes of the frozen substance and placed them inside the towel that was sitting on the counter. "Here," I said, awkwardly shoving the ice towards me.
"Thanks Zo, but I should just run it under water," he said gently walking over to the sink and turning the faucet on. Cold water splashed over the front of his arm. I walked over to him to get a closer look at the burn. It was bright red and looked really bad. I felt like crying, I was such a terrible girlfriend.
It didn't help that I was really really sick and I was PMSing. I was just very emotional and I had really hurt Alfie by the looks of it.
Alfie looked up and saw my saddened face. "Zo, don't worry it's not your fault," he said with a hint of a smile.
"Yes it is," I said with a pout sitting down on one of the kitchen chairs. Just as I was about to start crying the water that was in the pot Alfie was boiling started to boil over. Water splashed on the burners and steam started to pour up from the oven. I couldn't take it anymore the tears started coming out.
Alfie turned the water off on the faucet, dried his arm, walked over to the stove and turned the burner off before walking over to me. He sat down next to me and wrapped his non-injured arm around me.
"Zoe, I love you no matter what happens to me. Don't ever forget that okay?"
"Okay," I said softly. I turned my head towards him and kissed him. I loved him so much, even though I did burn his arm.
