It was sometime in the year 1943, Germany had stopped keeping track of dates when World War II had began. There was no point or joy in registering the days of fighting, bloodshed, and invasion of his comrade countries. But there was nothing he could do about it. As a personified country, he had no power during times of war and chaos, his boss, Adolf Hitler did. He controlled the military forces, the people, and the actions that his people did. Germany hated it, he could feel his people suffering, and dying, when political parties fought, it felt he was being torn apart. It was horrendous being a nation, everyday was complete agony, he couldn't even do anything to help anyone. Not his country, not his comrades, not even himself. Truthfully, Germany didn't want a war. He didn't want to feel more pain when someone attacked. It hurt so bad, and it scared him, when he thought about the great Roman Empire, one of those most powerful ancient empires, who grew so great in power, then vanished. Germany may have been born a solider, but he wasn't ready to collapse either. Compared to many other countries, he was quite young, too young, just to vanish yet.
Germany sighed, as he rubbed his forehead in exhaustion. He could tell the Axis were going to lose this war; they were losing many fights lately. His whole body was in pain, just from all the constant fighting. He sighed, looking at all the paperwork he still had on his desk, before returning to the battlefield. He wondered about Italy.
Italy is, and probably will be, his only friend. Japan respected him, sure, but Japan respected everyone and was so distant. It was hard to tell what that country is planning, or thinking.
Ring ring...
Germany looked wearily at the phone ringing innocently on his desk, Italy had probably gotten captured again.
"Hallo?" He asked, slightly annoyed.
"Germany! Help!" A voice screamed over the phone, it was Italy. "America and England are attacking Rome! Romano is evacuating everyone! They're destroying everything! It's horrible! He-" There was a large crash, before the line and the fearful cries were cut off.
As he held the silent phone in his hands, Germany was starting to become afraid for his friend, Italy wasn't crying out in his sweet and usually cheery voice, he was screaming. He was in full panic, which could only mean, the British and American troops weren't going for the capture, they were going for the kill.
"Verdammt!" Germany shouted, discarding the remaining paperwork on his desk, trying to figure out the fastest way to Rome, to help his friend.
~Rome, Italy~
Italy was scared, no, beyond scared. He was mortified, terrified. His beautiful capital, the place closest to his heart, was being destroyed in front of him. The British and American forces were slaughtering his troops, and there was nothing he could do about it. Being low in supplies and budget at the beginning of the war made them weak compared to the other nations. There wasn't anything his boss could do about it, they were forced into fighting. And now the Italy was paying for it. His capital was crumbling, his whole body felt like he would shatter at any moment, even breathing was starting to get difficult. His men falling around him made him feel like he was being torn apart from the inside. Walking as fast as he could through the destroyed city, towards a telephone, Italy went to contact his best friend, Germany. His men had surrendered when the first few air raids had destroyed the city, but they continued to attack ruthlessly. He bit his lip as he heard a pained scream from the distance.
Please answer, please answer, Germany, please. Italy mentally prayed, his chest burning as Rome continued to fall. Italy saw his brother, Romano, holding a small girl in his arms, trying to get her out safety, a few people where following him in a panicked haste, he gestured for everyone to follow, as an enemy jet flew by.
