A familiar humming sound grew and appeared inside of my ears. I slowly open my eyes and scan the room. I laid flat on my bed and I listened to the sound of my fish tank bubble. A familiar smell catches the attention of my nose and I close my eyes. "Mom...?" Quietly tiptoeing down the steps I had noticed my mother cooking and Morgana and Evan sat at the table. "Evan? What is going on?" I whisper as I inch closer to him. In a calm and secure tone Evan stated the obvious. "I am doing school work, why what's wrong?" His words confused me, had time reset?
"Mom... can I talk to you?" I whisper as I inch closer to her. "I'm busy, can it wait?" I nod and step towards the door. "I am heading out then... I will be back before supper." All that I had heard were groans and I understood the meanings. I inch my way closer to my old home only to find the door poorly painted blue. I knock three times as the anticipation builds, was Mason still living here? "Hello?" A familiar voice shouts as the door opens.
"Hello... do I know you?" A woman asks as she answers the door. "I must have the wrong house; I am looking for Mason Young." With an awkward smile she nods, Mason then arises from the shadows only to have a shocked expression once my face was shown. "You can go August; I just need to talk to her for a minute." As he spoke his words she walked deeper into my old home. "Ember...? When did you come back?" Mason whispers as he pushed me backwards with his own body. "Well almost ten minutes ago, when did you."
"A year ago... I let this kind girl named August live here and Chase as well, though they don't seem to remember what happened." I was in awe; Mason had kept the house maintained, invited others to live there, and still remembered; how did he do it? "How come we are the only ones to remember?" I ask as my body stilled, I felt almost frozen until Mason spoke once more. "The day that I had arrived Ethan spoke to me. He explained that we had broken the society."
I enter our home only to find out that it was left unchanged. "Ethan stated that the strength of our love had broken his 'perfect' society. He was furious, every known Cupid and bow and arrow was sent back home with their memories erased. Time was reversed to when I was changed from a cupid and for you it was the same. I am 20 again and you are 19, a lot has changed and now the human realm is all there is left and Ethan had disappeared along with." Excitement flowed through my whole body. "We are human again!" I shouted as I bounced up and down. "Human..." Mason whispers as his eyes reach the ground.
After our return to humanity, Mason and I became normal. Years passed and we gained employment, the shifting of the realms were hard to take yet we had. "Mason, what time do you go to work?" I asked as I pulled my face closer to his. Rolling on the bed, I felt the soft bristles tickling my legs. "8 as usual... Why do you ask? What time do you?" I only smiled as I laid my hand on his soft face. "I just want to enjoy the moment." I whispered as my head rested on his chest. I could only hear a huff and then Mason had breathed normal once more. I closed my eyes to listen to his heart beat yet I heard nothing.
"Mason?" I whispered as I pulled my head into the air. He looked confused for a moment and then he smiled. "So you found out?" What was wrong with Mason's heart? Why couldn't I hear it beating? What was happening? I began to become hectic; as my mind raced, my heart followed. "Wake up Ember... Wake up!" What had he meant? What was wrong with Mason? Why was he acting so strange?
"Ember...! Wake up!" I listened to the sound of Mason scream my name; I only opened my eyes to Mason on top of me, shaking me. "Why weren't you waking up?" Mason asked worriedly, I had no idea yet I had to make one thing clear. I pulled him close and laid my head on his chest. The sound of beating rang through my ears and relief was swept through my body. "It was just a dream..." I whispered as I kept my head in place. Mason had not said a word until my head left. "Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare?" He whispered as his arms wrapped around my body. I only nodded and closed my eyes; how was I supposed to tell him what I saw?
