It was a Friday morning, and as usual Oswald was on his way to Edwards lab. With his basket of baked goods in one hand and his umbrella in he other helping him walk he made his way through Gotham. As he pushed open the door to Edwards lab/office he saw him sitting there with Jim. Oswald and Edwards relationship was complicated. They lived together, and acted like a couple, but in public they swear they aren't a couple. But everyone, especially Jim, knows that they are a couple. This morning, unlike any other, Oswald didn't want to talk to anyone. He had had the worst nightmare the night before. His mothers death. He was in the worst mood, hoping Edward didn't tell him his weekly riddle. "Hi there Oswald. Riddle me this, rich men want it, poor men need it, it's useless to one, priceless to two." Oswald's grip on the basket slips and it hits the floor. He grabbed the umbrella and threw it fiercely at Jim.The next thing he knew, he had made his way to Edwards arms. In the comforting embrace of his lover he felt safe. The thoughts and feelings of his nightmare last night were still with him. Edward stood there, holding and loving his little penguin. He knew that he needed to protect him from all the bad things that happen in Gotham. All Edward wanted was for Oswald to be able to happily bake his penguin cookies. He scooped Oswald up into a cradle hold and carried him out of the office. He walked out the building, mouthing to Jim, "I'll be back soon." He held up a thumbs up, and went back to his paper work. Oswald's sobbing had quieted down, but he still softly cried into Edward's shoulder. Edward set him into the passengers seat, and gently shut the door. He made his way to the driver's seat, and got into the car. Soon they had started driving. As they made their way back to their apartment, it was nearly silent. Only the radio broke the silence. "Love." Edward said.
"What?" Oswald stuttered looking up. "The answer," Edward commented, "to my riddle." "Oh, the riddle you asked earlier. That one in the office. Oh yeah, I remember that riddle." Oswald babbled on. "Yeah." Edward said as he parked outside the apartment. "Are we home?" Oswald stammered. "Yes, we're home." Edward replied kissing Oswald on his forehead. He then hopped out of the car and ran to the passenger said opening the door for Oswald. "Here let me help you." Edward offered lifting Oswald up. "Thank you." He stuttered in reply. After standing up straight Oswald looked into Edward's eyes and truthfully said, "I'm in love you. I hope you always know that." He grabbed the collar his cardigan and pulled his lips on to his own. "I know," Edward muttered, "and I'm in love with you too." And with that he kissed him deeply again, before they headed inside for a cup of hot chocolate. Little did they know, Jim was back at the office eating the cookies, and cupcakes that Oswald had left behind.
