Today is my first day of school since I left Queens. I ended up moving from Queens Academy High School to P.S. 167 in Brooklyn with my cousins.  Me, having to readjust myself to the new surroundings felt weird and awkward. I miss my old friends Xavier, Tracy, Tina and Jesus but I guess that’s just how it’s gonna be.

“Hello, good afternoon. Who do I talk to, to enroll my niece into this school?” Auntie Nezzy said.

“Hold on, real quick and I’ll get the principal.” The secretary said.

I couldn’t help but to think what type of hell this place was going to be. I mean… to actually be with my cousins, AT SCHOOL? It’s enough dealing with them at home, I don’t know if I can handle them, plus their friends, here.

“Hi, how are you? Are you the parent that’s trying to enroll your child?” The principal asked while coming towards us.

“Yes.” My aunt said simply.

“Follow me to my office and we’ll talk.” The principal said leading us to his office.

“Hello, Ms. …?” he asked me.

“Chasity Ramirez.” I said.

“Ms. Ramirez” He repeated.

“Ok, well Ms. Sanchez here is your legal guardian. Correct?” he asked.

“Yes.” Auntie Nezzy said.

“Ok, well Ms. Sanchez just fill out this form and Chasity, pick out your classes and you’ll be on your way.” He cheered.

As Auntie Nezzy was filling out the form and I was picking out my classes, I couldn’t help to notice someone staring at me. When I looked up, Mateo was looking at me like he saw a ghost.

“Man …” I thought. Even though we’re all going to the same school now I was hoping they’ll never notice me. Too late now, huh?

For my classes I had Algebra III, World History, Chemistry, British Literature, Art, and Physical Science. Can’t wait …

“Great you’re all set! Have a nice day, Ms. Chasity and welcome to P.S. 167.” He cheered.

“Thanks.” I said blandly as I walked out the office.

“Have a good day.” Auntie Nezzy said as she walked towards the entrance.

“Oh, ok.” I said.

Everyone was already in their classes so I was the only one roaming the hallways. To me, I had an eerie weird feeling. It was a little bit too quiet, it creeped me out. It took me a good thirty minutes, since the school is so big, to find my first class. World History.

“Hi, who are you?” The teacher, Ms Ramiro asked.

“Im your new student, Chasity.” I replied.

“Oh, you’re Chasity. Hm… Ok. Take the seat right there between to Santiago and Chris.” She said.

When she said “Santiago” my whole body froze. I can’t believe I have to sit next to that demon in a human body. As I went to sit down I felt Santi looking at me, real hard.

“Why do you keep staring at me?” I asked.

“Why you in this class?” He retorted.

“Why you such an ass?” I spat.

“Cause I don’t like you. The only reason why the others and I have to be ‘nice’ to you is cause you’re quote unquote family but I really wouldn’t give a damn if you were the road kill on the street. Now leave me alone.” He said angrily.
