Tyler's POV
"Did they answer?" I asked Jason, my beta.
"No, alpha. They refused." He replied, shaking his head. O sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose.
I nodded and proceeded to walk towards the dungeons.
The iron doors opened as I walked in. I studied the two of them before me. The male was bleeding profusely, probably because of the whips.
The female was hardly touched, probably because she could already feel her mate's pain.
She looked up as I sat myself in a chain nearby.
" I will only ask this once. Who are you?" I said, glaring at them. The male shrunk away from my gaze, head hung low.
"I am Lucas and she is Delphine." He said slowly. I could hear her growl at him when he said that.
"And why are you here?" I asked, my voice calm.
"Our alpha was abusive an cruel, so we ran away." He answered.
I nodded, standing up to get ready to leave.
"Take the chains down. Give them food and water. Make sure to give them clothes too." I ordered tbe guards.
"Yes, alpha." They said in response and bowed. I walked on, head held high as I thought of the possibility of having rogues crossing the border. Not many have tried for months, except for the few stragglers who haven't heard of me. Every rogue and alpha that I've encountered should know that I hate rogues. After all they had done to me.
Flashback
I ran, searching for that familiar mop of messy brown hair and those green eyes. The rogues kept coming. A few of them even had the audacity to attack me. One snarled, leaping at me. I caught him between my teeth and broke his neck, tossing him aside. I specifically told him not to fight. He was only fourteen!
That was when I caught his scent.
A piece of bloody cloth lay on the ground. Not far, the scent grew stronger till it stopped at one point. I saw him. He lay on the ground, covered in blood and dirt. His eyes were open and glazed over. His body unmoving. A huge gash was on his neck, blood welling from the wound.
No. No. It can't be. He can't be dead. He cannot be dead. Grief overwhelmed me as my wolf took over and I shifted into my black wolf. Letting out a howl of anguish, I bounded into the fight. A few rogues dared get in my way. And a few more wolves suffered from my anger.
Then I saw their leader.
He froze, fear in his eyes. Instantly, he started running. I caught up easily, bowling him over.
I allowed him to stand up, but only for a while as I snarled, leaping at him and clawing at his flank. He lay limp in my grasp as I broke his neck, killing him immediately. It ended so fast. Too fast for my liking. I let out a howl, this time one of victory.
I ran over to Dan, and lay beside his body, closing my eyes, wishing this was all a dream, and that I would wake up the next day in my bed, knowing that it was all a nightmare.
End of the flash back.
I sighed and went into my room, glancing at the picture on my desk that was taken twelve years ago, back when I was 10. We were in a meadow, my father's arms wrapping around me, Dan and mum. We looked so happy then.
I remember the day they passed. I remember my father yelling at me to get help from another pack. I remember the shock of seeing my mother's dead body at the doorstep of the pack house. I remember coming back with the beta and other wolves of another pack, only to see my father murdered in front of my own eyes. I remember the grief, and the horror of the fact that my parents were dead; that I was an orphan.
After that, a friendly couple took us in. It was nice to know that someone truly cared for us, but it was never the same.
I got the alpha title when I was 16, but before that, the former beta stepped up to take my father's place. Unfortunately, he died in a border skirmish. He was really missed. Before they passed, my parents used to take us out on outings every weekend. Sometimes we would picnic in the field in a park near our house, and we would have ice cream after that. I would get chocolate while Dan would get mint chocolate-chip. In fact, I think he ate mint whenever he got the chance to. He loved mint flavoured cakes, and would get mint flavoured chocolate if he could.
I smiled thinking of the lovely memories that my parents, Dan and I had before they had passed away. It feels like forever ever since when had last been together.
Laying on my bed, I gave in to darkness as sleep overtook me.
