Fernanda's P.O.V.
We all burst into laughter as Ari finished the story.
"Hahaha...that guy ain't even know what hit 'em," Eliza said through her laughter.
"Haha...right?" I replied.
It was just a group of friends in the studio. Bruno, Phil, Ari, Eliza, Lucero, and I. Nothing unordinary.Until I heard the door open.
I hear Jessie and June talking to someone.
Everybody stops laughing and listens closely, mystified.
Suddenly, Jessie enters the studio with June close behind.
"Hey guys, look whose here," I say.
"Hey June, long time no see!" Phil adds."Umm...Fern.." Jessie says. Her tone was uncertain. I look at her in confusion and she stares back awkwardly.
"..you have company," June finished for her.
Company? I thought.
Everybody eyes them suspiciously, then they stare at me.
I felt Bruno get tense beside me.
His jaw clenched.
"Company? Who the hell is it? And what do they want?" He demanded.
"Calm down Mars, I'm sure a 7th grader isn't going to sleep with Fern. Besides Fern knows her."
I look at June with my eyebrows raised. Jessie nods for me to come over.I get up and I can feel Bruno's eyes looking right through me.
"She's in the living room." Jessie informed. I nodded my head and reluctantly go into the living room.I see a tall girl wearing a green summer dress gazing out the window.
At first I didn't recognize her, but then it hit me.
Laila! I think. What the heck does she want? And how did she know about this place?
I march over to her spot on the couch.
She doesn't look up right away.
"What the heck do you want you stupid dog?" I growl at her.
She turns her face to me. Her cheeks are red and her eyes are puffy. She's been crying. I can tell.
"I didn't want to go home," She replies in a shaky voice, "No one can help you there. Much less care."I look at her in shock. I thought she was their perfect dream child, their little slave. Never would I expect to hear those words.
"What do you mean?" I ask suspiciously. Was she on to something, or am I dead? She told me about the dance at Clemente Middle. About the 'alliance' thing. About how she lied to mom.
"..so I bought my ticket and went to the dance, and I saw...something." She said. Apparently after that she went crying to the bathroom where June came to the rescue. She never told me what she saw or why she was crying.
"Oh, well..." I started.
Can you feel pity for the enemy?
You can't.
You feel a deep hole.
That's what I'm feeling.
I never finished the sentence, unsure what to say.
I decided to fix her up before choosing what to do next, because she was a mess. Her face was covered in tears, and her dress disgusted me.
I walked to Bruno's room to let her borrow some of my clothes. I grab a white Aeropostale sweater and a pair of dark blue jeans.
I give to her and she changes in the bathroom. When she comes out, you can barely tell she's only 13. Well nobody ever could, because of her height and already developed body.
From first glance, she looks like a junior at high school.
"You look better, but your hair keeps getting in your face." I remarked. I grab a small plastic clip and clip two big strands of hair away from her face. "Thanks." She murmured quietlyI hear a bunch of laughter in the hall and soon find everybody gathered around us, staring at Laila and I.
"Woah, who's this chick Fern?" Ari asks.
"Umm...I'm Laila." She says shyly.
After a moment of silence, Lucero spoke up.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Lucero."
Eliza realized what she was trying to do and continued.
"I'm Eliza."
"I'm Ari."
"I'm Bruno."
"And I'm Phil." Phil finished with a big grin. Strange... I haven't seen him smile like that in quite a while.
Laila smiled at all of them. There was an awkward moment."So, you're the company, huh?" Eliza asks.
Laila shrugs.
"How about we go to the mall to get to know her better." Ari asks.
"That's a great Idea." Phil replied quickly. His big grin was still on his face.
"Ok then, June can stay here though and play on the play station or something." Jessie said."I'll drive." Bruno stated blankly.
