This is a short story I am currently working on and it is a slow process, so if you want to read it all once finished then please wait. I would really like to have thoughts on my story as I go though. Much thanks XOXO-hal
She looks back confused at first looking into the mirror. Her long brown hair hung long like sweet ocean waves down her back. Her pale skin reflecting back seemed normal but the scar was gone. Her antipathy ran deep for the scar she despised. She was glad it was gone but all so confused at the same time. She wasn’t her normal self. She was the younger her again. Looking into her reflection she saw everything about her just like it used to be. No bags under her green eyes. Her hair was long again. She had her tiny cheerleader looking body back. Everything about her was like she used to be.
“What the hell?” she questioned to herself in the mirror. “I’m thirty five and I look like I’m sixteen again.
As she looked around she didn’t recognize where she was. Then it hit her when she smelled the sweet chocolate aroma of her mother’s homemade chocolate chip cookies. Her favorite.
“Sam! I made cookies! Can I come in?” sang the lullaby voice of her mother at the bedroom door.
Then she realized she was back in her old room of her parents house. Her mom only made cookies for special occasions though.
“Yeah mom, but what’s the occasion?” she looks at her mother that she hasn’t seen since she was seventeen and holds the tears back as hard as she can.
“You finally broke up with that ol’ what’s his face. Jake! I really didn’t like that boy. He was to weird. Something just was not right about that kid deary. I think you would be much better with that nice young man down the road. Timmy. He’s such a good kid. I wouldn’t date anymore of those football players if I were you honey.”
“Jake?” Sam thought to herself. She hadn’t dated a Jake since high school when she was head cheerleader then found him cheating on her after she was kicked from the squad for doing drugs. “Did I tell you why I broke up with him mom?” She asked her mother trying to put things together.
“Oh something about his sister’s wedding and that he is taking his ex-girlfriend instead of you. Oh honey it doesn’t matter. Your away from him that’s all that matters.” Her mother said delighted as she stuffed Sam’s face full of chocolate chip cookie.
“Mom I can’t eat these. They will make me fat!” she mumbled through a mouthful of chocolate chips. She paused for a moment. It had been so long since she had tasted her mother’s cookies. They were always the best. So sweet, soft, and warm. She used to say they felt like heaven in your mouth.
“Oh one cookie won’t hurt you my darling.” Her mother said as she swiftly left through the door and went back down stairs to continue her cleaning.
“What’s going on? Why am I here? How did I get here? I remember all of this.” Sam thought as she remembered it all. It was the last fight her and Jake had before their big break up. It was what led her to try the drugs. It was when her downfall all began. “What do I do now?” Sam sat down on her bed. She looked around for a moment thinking of what all was going on then. She reached over to her purse and picked it up searching through it till she found her tiny pink phone she had loved so much as a teenager. She scrolled down to Tiffany clicking on her contact.
After a few rings she heard “Hello? Sam? Hello?”
“Tiffany. Are You home?”
“Yea what’s going on?”
“I’ll be over in five minutes.”
“Okay.”
“Tiffany?”
“Yes Sam?”
“Don’t tell Jake I’m coming, and make sure to have your happy pills when I get there.”
“Defiantly. Welcome to the fun Sam.” Sam could tell Tiffany was smiling.
