The bitterness of leaf-bear ripped at the cats like bittercold fangs. All the prey was gone, and ShadeClan

was going through a great struggle. "Everybody! Listen!", a slender brown tortiseshell she-cat with black spots yowled as she got on the highrock to get

the Clan's attention. "This leaf-bear has brought us many struggles. Prey is scarce, but we must stay strong," she meowed.

"Talonstar, how will the warriors find enough prey to last us?", a small she-kit with gray fur mewed. Talonstar replied, "Relax, Wispykit. We

are sure to find enough prey before the first snow." Wispykit sighed, "I hope so..."

A young black she-cat warrior slid through the lichen outside the leader's den. "Talonstar, may I speak with you?"

Talonstar turned around and asked, "Sure. Come in." The dark warrior sat down and curled her tail around her gray paws.

"How much time do we have?" "We should have until the next newmoon," Talonstar replied with anxiety. The black warrior

meowed, "Thats only in two days! Are you sure we can get enough prey by then?" "I sure hope so, Brambleclaw...", Talonstar

got up and padded out of the warrior den. Brambleclaw thought of the words Talonstar had given her when she joined the

Clan. Brambleclaw shook her head and bounded toward the fresh-kill pile.
