CHAPTER ONE
I hit the ground running.

I rolled to avoid grabbing hands and took cover behind one of the fallen gravestones. Once there, I palmed some more knives and hastily threw them at the approaching zombies -  Yes, I said it, zombies.

You see, the thing about zombies is they're fast little buggers. Frankly I prefer the ones in 'The Walking Dead' because  they're considerably easier to kill. No, the real ones are fast enough and smart enough that I didn't see the ambush until they where almost upon me.

Yeah, I know, I've been slacking. I heard quick, skittish footsteps behind me, snapping me out of my internal monologe. Out of my sleeve shot my silver knive and with a practiced motion, I jerked it into it's heart - or what remained of it.

Ducking to the side I plucked my blade from the corpse as it fell in a slow plummet towards the ground. One down, eight to go.

In another ten minutes or so, I stood amongst the wreckage and groaned. Gross. Couldn't zombies be a little more thoughtful and die in a neater, tidier way? After ten more minutes of hard labour (cleaning up!), two bus rides, a trip to the store - hey, I needed coffee! - and a three minute walk across campus, I unlocked my dorm room.

    To bump straight into Eddie.

"Hey Sabe, you look beat up - what got you tonight?"

"Zombies," I replied dryly, not wanting to elaborate.

"Nice."

"You looking for Christi?" I enquired.

Eddie's been going out with my best friend Christina almost since I got here and seen as he's around so much, he kind of got sucked into our little circle of weirdness.

"Yeah, actually you just caught me on my way out. Listen, if you see her can you tell her that I'll be down in the library if she wants to talk about - er, well she'll know what it's about."

"Sure," I replied. Now I really was interested. I couldn't wait untill I found her, because she would so spill.

The door closed softly and I surveyed the room. Blue and yellow printed daffofills covered the walls, clashing with the mismatched pillows and bed covers. The mahogany wardrobe stood tall and grand while the two pink, mural covered bedside lockers seemed to cower in terror from it.

 I loved it.

I crashed on to my bed and made short work of changing into something more comfortable. I slipped my favorite pair of jeans (light blue with cute, little rhinestones on 'em) and a black turtle-neck sweater that I used whenever I was in 'stealth mode'.   Add to that a pair of black sneakers and some jewelry and I was ready to go. I topped up my lipstick/lipgloss combination and surveyed myself in the floor-length mirror beside my wardrobe.

I was tall in my sneakers, with my black hair gently cascading halfway down my back. The jumper fit well, accenting what little curves I had and I was wearing the jeans Christi had stratigically chosen to 'shape' my legs properly.  Christi said I was "l was 'athletic',  but that was just a nice word for 'tiny breasts'! I sighed at my reflection and off I went.

                                                                ***************************

I didn't bother knocking on Jason's door. I could tell from the abstract humming and little scratching sounds that he was drawing.

"Hey", he said sleepily, giving me his cute, boyish smile.

"Hey yourself." Propping himself on one elbow, he observed casually as I scooted over next to him.

He was drawing a couple sitting alone in an otherwise abanoned church. The man was whispering to the woman and she wore an expression of delight on her face. Above them, among the rafters, evil looking goblins watched them almost...hungrily. You could almost see them creeping slowly, methodically towards them.

On the inside, I shuddered.  Of course, Jason didn't know that goblins only ate small children, and not, in fact, fully grown adults. Apparently it was something to do with the innocence of kids. Ugh.

On the outside, however I said "It's great! I love how you manage to put what's going to happen next on the paper too."

"It's not ready yet", he said with a small smile. Suddenly, his face grew serious and he leaned in closer to me.

"Your eyes are doing that thing again", he whispered, brushing a lock of hair back from my face.

And then he kissed me.
