Chapter 12

Laila's P.O.V.
I couldn't believe I was actually sitting with Fernanda's friends. Much less with Fernanda herself.

I also got to meet Bruno. I'm not going to lie, he's really cute. His hair is curly, his eyes are the color of chocolate, and also has a perfect tan complexion. He's handsome, that's for sure. Not only that, but his presence seemed to lighten up everything. His voice could break the ground in two. Everything about him was flawless.

Except that he was Fernanda's boyfriend.

They kept asking me questions. I answered them shyly. I didn't mind, but I'm not used to getting all the attention.
I was especially getting attention from one of Bruno's friends, Phil.
He was smiling at me, and sometimes he would ask me something like, "what's your favorite color?" or "what kind of things do you like to do?"
They were a little more personal than everyone else's questions.

Not that I mind.
Something about him drew me to him...

We finally reach the mall and Bruno parks the BMW. Everybody swiftly rushes to the entrance.
"Ari is gonna buy me some Uggs, right Ari?"
"Eliza, no one is buying you Uggs."
"One day, you will see one handsome guy buying me some Uggs way better than those ugly Jordans you got on, Jessie."
Jessie shook her head,"Naw...you thought."
The girls keep chatting about what they want to buy; but probably never will buy I think.
The boys are relatively quiet.

For the first time I realize what Jessie meant when she said the boys and the girls.

And for the first time, I understood it.

As we walk, I notice Bruno wrap his arm around Fernanda. Questions whizzed through my mind.
Do boys do that with girls they like? Is that normal to do? Do all boys do that?

Felix never did that with me.

Stop thinking of him I tell myself.
I didn't want to break down in the middle of a mall and in front Fernanda's friends.
I try to clear my mind, and I realize Lucero asked me a question and everyone was waiting for an answer. Their faces were looming over me, almost imitating. I search for an answer, my mind becoming blank.
"Pfft... Too busy day dreaming aren't you, stupid? Nothing unusual... You never did function right." Fernanda says as she sees me struggle for a response. All of her friends look at her in something else.
"Fern, I think that's a little overboard. She's your friend, not an animal!" exclaimed Eliza.
"Friend? She's my dumb ass sister! Why, do you expect me to like her!?"
Bruno looks at me and then Fernanda. A solid expression of bewilderment is struck on his face.
He whispers something in Fernanda's ear in an attempt to calm down.
"Wait, you're sisters?!" Ari asks. I nod my head.
"But aren't sisters supposed to like each other?" He asks with a confused look.
I shrug.

Were they supposed to?
"To hell with that!" Fernanda yelled.

"Hey Ari, go take Laila shopping or something. I'm going to go with Fernanda for a bit." Bruno said.
Ari nodded his head and motioned for us to come. Everyone followed and left a steaming Fernanda with Bruno.

"Sorry about that...Fern always had a huge temper." Jessie remarked as we continued walking.

We eventually came across a store the girls were dying to go into. "Ugh, I love this store! Everything is so perfect!" Eliza squealed as she ran in. Lucero followed close behind.
"Yea, and we can buy Laila some clothes while we're here." Jessie said.

I've honestly never been shopping and never really cared what brand of shirt I was wearing. From Dollar store to BeBe, I didn't really see the difference.

"Oh really you don't have to..." I started to say.
"No, go buy yourself something nice. I'll pay for it." Phil interrupted. I turn around and observe him. He smiled sweetly, causing a small warm flame to flicker in my stomach. I had never felt it before, and for a moment I made eye contact with him. His eyes were soft and gentle, but there was a unfamiliar glow in them.
