Follow, rather than fight the path laid out for you! Some people refer to "the path" as "coincidence" or "fate" while others choose to follow "God's plan."
There are times when people get so wrapped up in a search for their destiny, they often overlook signs standing right smack in front of them. For me, I realized that an entirely different path presented itself a couple of years ago. The indications were very subtle and could easily have been missed if not for my life's tendency to go with the flow.
In the midst of weaving a make-believe character into my financial manuscript to help liven it up and make it more interesting for the intended readers, young adults, a strange thing happened. I began awakening every morning to dreams flooded with fictional material instead of ideas about investing.
How could this be happening to me? I'm an engineer — a scientist! I'm a think logic — not nonsensical make-believe crap!
At first, I was frustrated. I could have shaken it off and forced myself to focus on the current technical material but instead, I chose to follow the path laid out for me and began writing everything floating in my head each morning.
Tapping across the keyboard, my fingers whipped out exciting lines of "The New World" that presented itself in my dreams during the wee hours. Often, before I finished my second cup of coffee, I'd crank out two to four chapters.
I could hardly contain myself and before I knew it, 12 months later, I was ready to publish my first book, The New World: A Step Backward. I couldn't believe I'd written a science fiction novel. If someone had told me three years earlier that I'd publish a fiction, I would have declared them insane, right there on the spot! But that's exactly what I had done.
For the entire year, I had pounded the keyboard making up a world and characters never imagined before and wondered why God had taken me down such an unexpected path. Then, in the middle of my second book signing, it became clear as a finely polished diamond! But that's a remarkable story in and of itself for another time.
