Shane's Pov (Meagan's Father)

I closed the door and left Meagan in the room alone. I'm still not sure if this whole training thing is a good idea. She is a very courageous young girl, but I'm not sure if she's completely ready for such a thing. Maybe I'm the one that's not ready. I knew that this day was going to come but I didn't knew it was coming this soon. I need to show her that their is going to be a day where I won't be with her anymore. She has to learn how to move on. She has to be ready. I need to show her the way to survive. She's all I have left and I will do what ever it takes to keep her safe.

-

"It's time to man up Shane." I tell myself while opening the entrance door. I hear footsteps and turn around to find Meagan. "Dad?" I hear her say. "What's wrong?" I ask. "No I was just making sure it was you." Oh. "Meagan are you ready?" She shows me the bag that she had behind her and nods. "Let's go." She walked behind me as I lead the way. We finally stopped at a place that I was 100% sure it was secure. It had fences surrounding it. The grass was cut short and it had alot of free space. We were pretty far from the city which is good since we don't want to attrack any unwanted visitors. All I know is that in about a week from now we have to move. Everything happened so fast that the so called Zombies will start to migrate in groups.

"I take my Glock 19 handgun out of the bag and hand it to her. "Here. Let's see how you do with this one." I say while she stares at me confused. "What do I shoot?" She asks. It wasn't visible enough or what? "You see that sign that says No Trespassing?" She nods and stares at it. "Well your target is the 'O' in No."

"Dad I'm not that good of an aim-er. I will surely miss. Why not something more simple?" She asks.  "Simple doesn't win the war kid. If you focus enough I know you will hit the target. So do as I say!" I tell her while she gets ready to aim.

"Never turn the gun to side. Not even a little." I say while she nods. The loud sound from  a gun being fired fills my ears but I've heard it many times so it doesn't bother me much. The sign was just a few yards away. I decide to walk towards it and see where she shot.

"Not bad! But you can do better." She missed by just a couple of inches. I should be super glad right now but I know that this isn't the best that she can do. "Focus." I say while walking back to where she's standing. "Stand straight. take a deep breath. And imagine the bullet going through you're target." I say while she follows each and one of my instructions. Once again she fires. I walk towards the sign and she follows from behind. "I'm pretty sure that I hit it." She says cheerfully. "Wow you actually hit the target." I say while she smiles brightly.

"So am I ready now?" She asks. "No. Not quite." I need to train her to shoot a moving object. The zombie will not just stand there and wait for her to shoot. "I have an idea." I say. "Stay here I'll come right back." With that I turn around and make my way inside the storage area. I grab a rope that's next to the entrance and a piece of wood that was stocked up in some pile. I head back to where Meagan's at and look around. I find a large tree and walk towards it. Meagan just stands there looking confused by my actions.

I throw the rope over one of the tree's branch and tie it. I pull down on the rope to make sure it's secure. At the other end of the rope I tie the large piece of wood. The piece of wood is about 4 feet above the ground which is good. "Dad what are you doing?" I hear Meagan ask from behind me. "You'll see." Once again I pull down on the rope with the wood to check that it's secure.

"Okay, Meagan your going to try to shoot the piece of wood from further away. I will be swinging the piece of wood around making it harder for you to hit your target. Got it?" She quickly nodded and backed away getting ready to shoot. Once I start swinging it you start to shoot. Remember the 4 steps. 1) Focus on your target and aim. 2) Take a deep breath in and then out. 3) Imagine the bullet going throught your target. 4) Fire." She nodded and got in her position.

I grabbed the piece of wood and swung it accros. I nodded to her and with that she started firing.

The piece of wood was moving at a constant speed. She missed her first 3 shots but then she recovered by hitting the middle point of the piece of wood. I couldn't be more proud. She has so much to learn still. But we are taking one step at a time. "Great job sweety." I say while approaching her. "I totally nailed it. Did you see that I shot the middle point of it." She says happily. "I know. I saw." I give her a warm smile. "What's next?" Seems that she wants more challenges. "Follow me."

We went all the way to the roof of the storge area. "So what's my mission?" Meagan asks. "Good thing you ask. Here." I say as I hand her my M21 sniper. Her face has shocked written all over it. "You want a challenge I'll give you a challenge. Now what yo have to do is aim to your target which is that sign all the way over there that says 'Reconstruction'. Got it." She looks down at the sniper and then back at me. "But I haven't used one of these since I was 14." She says worriedly. "It's okay. The challenge will be better now." I say while smiling. "Your such an ass." I let out a small chuckle and nod in agreement.

"Now since it's a sniper your going to have to look through the scope." She stares at me with a 'nah duh' exppression on her face. "Just saying." I say while putting my hands up in surrender. She laughs and then gets ready. She aims while looking through the scope. "Focus Meagan." I can tell that she's nervous. She nods and puts her attention to her target. I hear her let out a small breath and then fires. "I got it!!! I actually got it!" She starts saying while jumping up and down. "Let me see." I look through my binoculars and let out a huge smile. "I guess you do know how to aim good don't you?" She smiles at me and lets out a small laugh. "That's it for today. But we will get back to this okay. Today was good but remember that you can always do better." She nods and gives me a reassuring  smile. "Hungry?" I ask. "I've been waiting for you to ask that." We both laugh and walk downstairs.
