Chapter One~ We were so close
It all began in secondary school when 4 friends; Alice, Ben, Kate and James where all in the schools canteen, catching up with each other from there lessons.
"Maths was so funny! Ally, remember when Mr Brown said he spilt tea on our exercise books so now we don't have any homework!" Kate laughed hysterically, hitting the table with her fist and making the table shake like jelly.
"Yeah, it was okay, I 'spose." Alice mumbled into her long blonde hair. She nearly dipped her hair in her orange squash. Alice was known as "the quiet one" of the group. As for Ben though, he wanted to be the centre of attention.
"Hey, guys, who wants to go on a little adventure?" Ben asked.
"What kind?" Kate replied while she peeled her orange.
"A good one. You see, my Nan lost this box with pearls in it, and it's been in our family ever since my great nan got it from a market. So, you all up for it?"
"It sounds nice, but I really have to get on with homework. I'm not getting a detention." Alice said as she grabbed her bag and left the booth.
"Well? What about you, James?" Ben said, staring directly at James.
"I'm up for it." He said as he put a straw in his apple juice carton.
"Now, C'mon Kate, you know you want to go!" Ben sang.
"I'm totally up for it!" Kate clapped with a mouthful of orange segments.
"Now all we need to do is convince Ally and we also need a time." Ben remarked.
"We can't just put down any old time though, as what if some sort of spy comes along and sees our plan?" James replied.
"Okay then. I'll work on the times and you guys wait for a message through your letterboxes." Kate exclaimed.
So, with that, when Kate went home, she took out a folder with blank sheets of paper. She took out her biro pen and scribbled down what numbers meant for every letter and if it was a number or time, it would be a letter. She put it into the photocopier and put the paper into the 4 envelopes then put a stamp on each letter, then put it into the post box near her house. Soon after, the others received the envelope. The letter read:
To my 4 friends, here is the code, keep it safe. Underneath the text everyone received a post-it note that contained the code: A=1 B=2 and 1=A 2=B and so on. So they all head of to Ben's Gran's house.
