"Ave, where are we going?" I looked up at my 14-year-old sister.
"We need to give Alice some alone time. I'm bringing you to the library. Just because Ms. Peters isn't coming today, doesn't mean that you shouldn't have your lessons. I'm going to read to you." Avery told me.
I sighed. Lessons, lessons, lessons. Always learning. Alice played the piano brilliantly, while Avery mastered the strings of the violin. Sometimes, I find it hard to live up to them.
"Ana... Alice is facing a difficult time now... You know that, right?" Avery asked softly.
I rolled my eyes. As if I didn't know. When girls turned eighteen, they had to be married. But as we were living on water, finding suitable mates were difficult. So, all the eligible ladies and gentlemen were to meet at the Island of Love.
Cheesy, right?
The Island of Love was the last remaining island on Planet Earth, and no one was allowed to live on it. It was the official venue for the Turning of Age ceremony.
"Yes, I know."
Avery sighed softly. "It's so romantic, isn't it? Imagine, walking onto the Island of Love, and catching the eye of a handsome suitor... Won't that be fine?"
I rolled my eyes again. For an eight-year-old, I do a lot of eye-rolling. But you can't blame me. Avery is so romantic that most of the time she's in a daze.
Alice is always so uptight. I really wish she'd just let loose. But then she'd go on and on about responsibility and being the oldest.
Cue eye-roll.
