"Are you really that sick?" My cheeks burn red as I meet Ethan's eyes. He's been around for as long as I can remember, always hovering over me although he only hung around for Avery.
"Yes. I am really that sick. I've moaned and groaned about it the whole first period." I quickly push Ethan out of my face as he studies my eyes. "Honestly you just look stoned, Mother Mary come by your place again?" I shudder at the mention of 'my place'.
Once I've reached my locker I freeze. I can feel the heat of Ethan's body behind mine as he leans down to whisper something to me. "I know you keep telling me that you don't smoke but there's a few other things we can do to make your first experience so wonderful you'll want to do it again." I turn around and shove him just as Avery is walking up.
"Kitz I know you want to be ready for the next party but coming on to my guy is not the way to go about it." Mumbling a quick whatever I start to open my locker. Avery is a tall, slender strawberry blonde with the bluest eyes I've ever seen. They're as big as saucers, adorn with long luscious eyelashes. She's always assuming someone is coming on to Ethan, even though she's seen him in action before. Ethan is a tall blonde that always wears a ponytail, he's also Avery's first love. That's why I always let it go, she's my best friend.
Just as the bell is ringing, I reach into my locker and snatch out a jacket, along with my books. I quickly slide down the golden halls and into my 2nd hour, but not before sliding on my jacket. It feels bigger than usual but I don't bother worrying about it, seeing as my second hour teacher likes to teach in an icebox.
My silky, coal colored curls bounce up and down as I slide through the rows of desks as quiet as possible. I ignore the sounds a group of boys behind me are making to imitate a motorboat. God, I hated Leo Poweny.
Just as I pull out my pencils, a boy with brown curly hair and a sharp jawline sits at the desk next to me. I try to glance at him as though I am looking around the room but our eyes lock and I am unable to look away. His lips quirk upwards as he twists his body towards me and speaks. "Dean Zamora. I think I wanna know your name."
Just as I am about to respond, I hear a deep guttural voice interrupt us. "Hey Zamora no way, She's obviously Poweny's girl." I quickly snap my head towards the voice not shocked to see it's Nathan, Leo Poweny's best friend. Nathan is a very short and broad-shouldered boy with light-colored skin and swoopy black hair, the same color as his eyes.
My eyes automatically squint as I glare at him before speaking. "No way in hell will I ever be his girl. Fuck off Nathan." I turn slightly but immediately turn back around when he speaks again. "Then whatcha doing with his jacket on Kitzel?" He points a stubby accusing finger at me as I look down at my chest.
Sure enough, I have on the same jacket Leo had worn the night of the incident. "Wha- I have no idea why..." As I stutter and frantically rip the jacket off, Nathan and the rest of the boys yell and laugh loudly. Dean is no longer smiling but just shaking his head at the rest of the boys.
I slowly sink further into my seat as our teacher, Ms. Ramsey shushes "the back row". I sneak three hesitant glances at Dean before speaking. "Hey, I uh, Powe- I mean, Leo and I are not an item we just share a locker due to budget cuts y'know. And I must've grabbed his jacket by accident. I'm Kitzel Morsel." Dean gives me a half smile that makes my body feel as though someone is tickling my insides.
"Hey no sweat Morsel." Just as I'm about to respond, I notice the class has suddenly gotten eerily quiet. "Dean, Kitzel, I am so sorry I'm interrupting your lovely conversation, but if you want, you can always continue it outside of my classroom." I sarcastically smile and look down at my notes when Ms. Ramsey finishes her rant. But as I reach for my pencil, my hand is yanked away from my desk.
