Nevermore

Chapter One

  Well, I'm fucked. And not just a little very very very fucked. I have an arrow pointed at my head and an executioner who's about to put it through my head. Let's just say THIS is why you don't disobey the council. Shit this is probably really confusing, right? I'll start over. My names Cyrus Thomas I'm a hunter for general Eboni's Cordilleras troops. But, I haven't seen her, every time I try looking for her, boom she's off to war, or she's helping the medics with the injured. Eboni and I were friends before the war, we even dated for a while. However, when the war started our parents died and we went in different directions. She took over her father's job as a Major and worked her way up the ranks; she's now second in command to the Raiders leader.

I never wanted to be like this, hell I wanted to be a doctor, but you remember the buzz about Y2K well it didn't happen exactly as we thought and not even near 2000. Right now it's 4290 the war started ten years ago when I was 15. Eboni was 14 and, ha; she just asked me out. I said yes of course, and that night we went to a dance. On the last dance of the evening, we were slow dancing, and it was the best time I could remember with her. She's short, about 5'4 at the time I was 5'8, and her head lay on my chest as we slowly swayed to the music. She was a wearing a black and red dress on with stockings that reached her knees. And yes I do remember the exact details, some of which I refuse to write down... But I still remember. I looked down at her and kissed her head when the earth broke beneath our feet.

She was flung backwards and walloped her head on the wall. I ran to her trying to pick her up, but she was dead asleep. I was terrified, and then the school collapsed. I woke up two days later, caked in blood, sweat, and pieces of concrete. Eboni was gone, and I had no idea what to do. I checked my phone, and it lies shattered and ... had it imploded? I had no idea what happened, but the entire base was gone, it just lies in rubble. I ran to my home; there was nothing but bodies. My eyes burned as tears threatened my eyes. I didn't even try blinking them away; I just let them fall.

I stayed there sobbing holding my mother's hand and waiting to die for three weeks. The girl I loved was dead, and my family was gone, I just gave up. That's when I saw him, and his name was Gorden. He was working for the Ravens after the blast; he explained everything to me. Apparently, the earth's plates shifted and broke apart causing the Earthquakes, but they unleashed hell. Demons sprung from the Earth crust slaughtering everything in their path. And I do mean actual demons. The electricity was cut off from everywhere, and everything that once was destroyed.

Now, society rebuilt itself, but without standard electric tools, everything is made from wood giving it a very 1800 look to everything. So I guess this is the end, I hear the Raven solider shout 'FIRE", and I clench my eyes shut waited for the arrow to pierce the skin. It never came. I listened to the arrow loose, but it never hit me. I looked up to see everyone around me dead. My eyes widened as I felt a tap on my shoulder. My eyes widened looking at her, and it was my old friend Camille. She smiled and said, "Oh Eboni is gonna love this". I was shocked hearing her name that I couldn't hear anything. She's alive, she's ok, she's ok. I sat in the carriage, and Camille gave me a bottle of wine. I drunk it down and handed it back to her. " Now where the hell have you been, Ebby has been making us search all across Germany for your ass!" " I'm a hunter, I'm always all over, The Ravens wanted me to kill the head of the Raiders army, but I refused, that's why I was at the killing spot," I said shallowly.

She sighed and looked up "we're here" she jumped off. I followed, and she turned to me "Eboni is in the archery yard you'll see her there." I nodded and ran, I needed to see her, to hold her again. I walked down and saw a woman dressed in steel armor firing arrows at six dummies. I walked down while admiring her. She had shoulder length gold-brown hair, excellent aim, and still short. "Still short huh?" Next thing I knew and an arrow flew past my head cutting my ear just a little. I turned and saw that the arrow split an apple clean in half "Who are you and what the fuck are you doing here?" She asked pressing the dagger to my throat. "Don't you miss me Ebby?" I asked, and her eyes went wide "CYRUS!!" She screamed hugging me as tight as she could.

"WHERE THE SHIT BALLS HAVE YOU BEEN?!?" she crying and laughing. I smiled and held her close. She smiled and kissed my forehead over and over and lent her head against mine. " I missed you so much." " Me too Ebby." I laid back, and we just held each other, that's all I wanted. God that was sappy.
