Cas had 8 am class every day of the week, excluding Sunday. Every morning he was up and shaving and waking Dean up. Every morning Dean was up and groaning about something, mostly Cas' razor and how loud it was. Except for the Saturday after Pictionary.
This particular Saturday morning Dean rolled out of bed and stretched out. He swung his legs off the side of the twin bed and rubbed the sleep from his eyes before opening them. The sight that they saw made him double check the time. a.m.
Cas was laid out on his bed still asleep. "Cas," Dean said softly. When the boy did not stir he walked over to him and shook him awake. The first shake was tentative, Dean had only touched Cas in passing the night before as he handed something to him. Then he shook harder because Cas really needed to get up.
Cas finally rolled out of bed and straight onto the floor. He looked up at Dean and said: "What?" His morning voice was so much gruffer than Dean's. Dean swallowed, hard, before backing up, all the while rubbing the back of his neck.
"Um," He swallowed once more to gain his composure. "You slept through your morning class buddy." Cas' mouth dropped open and he rushed to get ready. He pulled on black pants, a white button-down, a blue tie, and a trench coat.
His tie was crooked and Dean couldn't hold back a laugh.
Cas glanced at him, disgruntlement plain on his face. "What? What is it?"
Dean felt the past year of finding himself and the changes he'd made to his lifestyle since that one night with Crowley tugging at him. He reached over and fixed Cas' tie. That sounds too innocent. He pulled Cas towards him by the tie and slowly adjusted it. Cas's face was mere inches from Dean's bowed one so Dean could hear when the other boy's breath caught and his heart speed up. Dean could smell the slapped on cologne that had just been applied.
"There we go," Dean said, straightening his head up, his hand still on Cas' necktie, holding him close.
Moments passed with Dean still holding onto Cas, their gazes steady on each other, nd Cas struggling to breathe.
"D-dean," Cas managed, his voice extra croaky.
Dean let go and turned to make his bed, "your tie was crooked Cas." He managed to seem nonchalant when every muscle in his body was alive and tingling and begging to be closer to the awkward boy. Unshaven Cas added an extra element that Dean hadn't been prepared to defend against.
"Yes. Apparently, that was the case," Cas replied. He hadn't moved from the spot Dean had pulled him too.
"Would you like to have lunch with me, Cas?" Dean made it a point to say Cas' name as much as he could.
Cas nodded slowly until he realized that Dean wasn't looking at him when he managed to respond with, "Yes. That would be nice."
Dean broke out in a smile. He turned around just in time to catch Cas' gaze slowly melting down Dean's body. He realized he was wearing threadbare pajama pants. Think about Ellen and Bobby doing, think about Ellen and Bobby doing it. Dean remembered that he was smiling like the idiot he was so he dropped the smile.
"Okay let me take a shower and I'll meet you out by my car, it's the black 1967 Chevy Impala."
Cas nodded, leaving Dean alone to shower.

"where are we going?" Cas said after he was awkwardly seated in the shotgun spot in Dean's Impala.
"Well I really want a hamburger and pie, so this place called Pie Hard," Dean replied. The diner was a short drive fro the campus but Dean could have cut the tension with his pinky nail. Every time one of them would start a conversation it would die.
~
The inside of Pie Hard was bright yellow with wooden tables scattered about. Dean and Cas took a table n the far back corner.
They flipped through the menu silently.
"Is this a date?" Cas asked looking up at Dean with an empty look. He said it like he completely expected this to be asked at some point like it was nothing.
Dean, on the other hand, spit out his milkshake that had just been brought to him. He took a moment to collect himself. He could feel his hand's shaking. He could feel every bone in his body and he could visualize all of his nightmares. The anxiety over his own sexuality resurfaced and he could barely keep his eyes open and dry.
"I-I can try and let it be," Dean finally said, his hands clenched into fists at his sides.
Cas raised an eyebrow. "You were so confident earlier. And now - Did I do something wrong?" Cas asked softly.
Dean let the poor boy's frown relax him.
"No. You didn't. It's just," He blushed and coughed to try to cover it up, "I've never-" He coughed again, "gone on a date with a guy." He looked down at the menu.
"Me either."
Dean looked up at Cas and when Cas saw that Dean was smiling, Cas did too.
