"And hurry down the chimney tonight," I sing along with my favorite holiday song.
I've been wrapping presents for my younger sisters for the last hour. I'm the oldest of five, and we're all girls. Get this, they're all at least seven years younger than me. I'm eighteen and the second eldest, Maria, is eleven. Ally is nine, Jessica is eight, Nicole and Georgia are six. I had to get each of them two gifts; one from me and one from 'Santa.'
I guess I can't blame them; Christmas used to be my favorite holiday too. Waking up to warm fire in the fire pit, finding icicles hanging down outside my window, unwrapping presents in my pajamas, having dinner with my whole family at my grandma's house, and frolicking through the white snow was my favorite part of the holiday.
As I grew older and each of my sisters came one by one by two, I grew more responsible. I started receiving less and less presents and eventually Santa was no longer real to me. Now my parents barely recognize the holiday season. It's up to me to save the holiday spirit for them.
Now it's Christmas Eve and instead of going to parties like my parents and sisters, I'm here wrapping presents. If I had more money, it would be easier to convince them that Santa is still real. Maria only received two presents from 'Santa' last year and claims that he gives children more than just two presents. Tomorrow ought to be fun.
I can only work so many hours a week. I had to buy a new tube of wrapping paper so my sisters don't suspect -anymore than they already do- that it's me buying and wrapping all these presents. Since my parents are at a Christmas party so I guess I'll be making my own Christmas Eve dinner tonight.
