Date. 24th July of 1958. Summer and Sunny. Location. Chicago, Illinois
WallDra Peirce, Aged 17. WallDra's POVI wake up to see my neighbours mowing their lawns, waxing their cars and waving at each other. It was really a sight to see and the best part was that I was getting into Collage after six months of waiting to get in. And you want to know why I'm getting into Collage? It's because I've been making Prosthetic Limbs for people.
"Well I better get back to work on those Prosthetics." I said out loud and I went to the garage which has a few bits and pieces, my 1950 Chrysler Newport and of course my place of working on my Prosthetics. My workbench. "This arm is impossible to work on but I have to try." I told myself.
I had little experience with Electricity and since making the limbs move like a normal arm I had only worked on legs for now. "Well I'll have to work on these Prosthetics later on." I said. I got in my car and drove out of the garage and out the street. "Hope traffic isn't too heavy like last week." I told myself.
I eventually got to the Collage. I looked around and it was pretty amazing.
"Excuse me but where is the head of this College?" I asked the guy at the Registration Office.
"It's on the 3rd floor, down on the right and then the last door on the left." The guy told me.
"Thanks." I thanked him.
I went in the Elevator and walked to the Head's Office.
"Come in." The Head told me.
I walked in and sat down.
"Ah WallDra Peirce." He said.
"Yeah and I sent my Application in here six months ago." I told him.
"Oh yes yes but there's a problem Mr Peirce." He told me.
"Oh what's that?" I asked him.
"The thing is that you aren't able to go to this College." He told me
"Why's that?" I asked him.
"There isn't any records of you going to High School and your application has been cancelled." He told me.
"So what should I do now." I asked him.
"Well the only thing you can do is go to High School but it's in Florida." He told me.
"Ok." I said and I walked out his office and the building.
"Crap I can't believe I can't go to a College now but I guess I better get to High School." I said as I got in my car and drove it of the city two hours later.
"I'm out of Chicago now." I said. But then my car ran out of gas and there wasn't any gas stations for miles so I grabbed my stuff out of the Glove Box.
There was my Driver's Licence, Wallet, Keys to my house and my tape recorder that I modified to play music that was on tapes then I got my Duffle Bag from the back seat."Well I guess I'm walking."
I said but I took one of headlights off and put it in my Duffle Bag as I reminder of my car.
I walked on the side of the road. "Well I wonder what type of High School I'm going to." I said to myself and thought of what High School it would be. It probably had a nice hedge at the front of the school, glass pane windows that are really clean, and of course the place would have a nice green and white paint on the outside.
"I can imagine that. I thought to myself." Then a truck went by and I hitchhicked on it. "Well it's not a clean truck but it's a good ride." I told myself. "Hey who's back there?" The Driver shouted. I jumped off and ran into a field. "Hey get back here!" The Driver got out of his truck but he chased me for a few minutes before I lost him.
That was a close call but I better not hitchhick on anymore cars or trucks. I told myself yet again. I rested up against a tree and saw a man wearing a Army Uniform. "Um who are you?" I asked the Stranger. "Private First Class Lyon Hardy." He told me. "But the war ended thirteen years ago." I told him. "Really? How?" He asked me.
"The Americans Bombed Hiroshima with the Little Boy and Nagasaki with the Atomic Bomb aka The Fat Man." I told him. "We bombed the Japanese with Atomic Bombs?" He questioned. "Yeah we did." I told him. "Well at least we won two wars." He said. I looked at his arm. "How'd your arm get like that? Shrapnel or Bullet?" I asked him.
"Grenade." He told me. "I can help you with that." I told him as I pulled out the Electronic Arm I had in my Duffle Bag. "What's that?" He asked me. "It's a Prosthetic Arm and you can move it like a real arm." I told him. "How much?" He asked me? "Nothing." I told him. "Thanks but how are you gonna connect it to me?" He asked me.
"I'll need some circuits to make it work now." I said but I grabbed my headlight out of my Duffle Bag and stripped it for the wires and put them on the arm. I managed to fix it after three hours and I put it on Lyon's Arm after I put small cuts into his arm. "Ok try that." I asked him. He moved it like a real arm.
"Your a miracle." He told me. I shook his Prosthetic Arm and walked out of the field. I'm glad I helped that guy but now I'm going to High School now. I told myself. I looked at the sign on the road. 2 Miles To Florida. Thank God it's not too far. I told myself. I thought about how I can make more of the Prosthetics.
I then saw a bus picking someone up. Wait! I shouted and ran to the Bus. Oh hey. The Driver said to me. I walked up at the back. Are you going to High School? The Kid asked me. How'd you know? I asked him. This is the Bus to High School. The Kid said then everyone laughed at me.
Well I didn't go to High School when I was a kid because I was working on Prosthetic Limbs for Injured War Veterans. I told everyone and they went silent. Why work on Prosthetic Limbs for War Veterans? Someone asked me. Well I wanted to show kindness to them after what they did for this country. Look she's here. Someone said.
Then I saw her. Someone told me she was Anna Lovett. A Foreign Exchange Student from France. She had Sliver Eyes like the finest metal and Blue Hair like the prettiest ocean. I knew I was in Love with her. He's in love with her! A Kid Shouted. Then she looked at me. I stared at her. Then she walked up to me.
Hmmm you must be Wall.Drel. She said. It's WallDra Peirce Ma'am. I told her. The Soldier told me that you gave him a Prosthetic Arm.
"Can I ask why?" She asked me.
"I wanted to help him."I told her.
"It was a waste of resources." She hissed at me.
Then she sat down beside another girl.
"Well I guess she likes me". I sarcastically thought.
