Chapter 4: We all have our demons

After we left, we promised her mother to meet at my favorite pizza place. It’s called Serosa’s.
“This place is so cool. Live performances and graffiti on the ceiling and walls. She said.”

I said, “Yeah, this place has been here since I was in middle school.”

After a long conversation over pizza, I see Genevieve’s mother walk in. She didn’t look happy. I knew something was wrong.

“Well, there’s your mother.” I say to Genevieve.

I stand up and motion her mother over to our booth. I heard her stumped over to us.

“Hi mommy.” Genevieve said.

Madison rolled her eyes and said, “Nathan I need to talk to you.”

Genevieve and I looked at her confused. “Did I stutter? I need to talk to you!” She said angrily.

I said, “Whoa, alright.” We walk into the lobby. I walk in slowly behind her.

“So, what’s up?” I asked her.

“I want you to take full custody of Genevieve.” She said without hesitation.

“What do you mean I should take full custody?”

“It’s better if she lives with you”

I rub my forehead. “Are you serious Madison? I don’t even know if she’s my daughter or not.”

“She is a spitting image of you. Madison continued, I’m just going to be honest. I don’t want her anymore.”

I look at her with a raised eyebrow. “What the hell are you talking about!?” I say in rage.”

Timothy and I deserve a better life without an annoying little girl.”

At that moment, her new boyfriend comes through the door.

”Hey baby, When you coming out?” he asked.

“I’ll be out in a minute.” Madison said.

He looked at me and asked, “Who is this?”

“This is Genevieve’s father.”

“Oh, you mean that little annoying bitch.” He said laughing.

“Hey don’t call her a bitch you prick.” I say getting in his face.

Madison gets in the middle of us and says, “Stop it you two. Tim just wait outside.”

At that moment, Genevieve comes out of the restaurant. She looked at Timothy with a scared look.

“Is everything ok? You’ve been out here for a long time.” She said.

“Yes sweetheart everything is fine.” I told Genevieve trying to hide the truth.

“I’ll be outside if you need me Maddie.” Said Timothy.

“Alright babe.” Said Madison.

When I looked at Genevieve, she looked like she saw a ghost. I knew something was wrong. 

“Are you ok Genevieve?” I ask her.

She blinked a few times before saying, “Umm…….yeah I’m fine.”

Madison stepped in front of me and said, “Well Genevieve, I have to tell you something. ”

“What is it?”

"I don’t want you anymore. ” Madison said.

Genevieve looked at her shocked and said, “What?”

“You’re going to be living with your father. I can’t deal with you anymore. ”   

Genevieve began to cry a little and said, “But why mom? What did I do?”

“Genevieve I don’t want to hear it. I’ll be in Paris with Tim. I’ll send your crap in the mail. ” Madison said walking out.

I felt really upset and angry. Madison is evil for doing this to Genevieve. The girl was only eleven And she just left her.

“You okay Genevieve?” I asked as she stood in front of me staring at the door

“Yeah. ” She said holding back tears.

“Alright let’s go. "  I said.
