It was close to two in the morning when fey began to come around. She stirred feebly at first then opened her eyes and closed them again quickly. Her head was throbbing with the intensity of a thousand stars. For a moment she couldn't tell where she was, then the memories came flooding back. The shopping trip, the nameless boy, the attempted escape, and now she was here, alone. She tried to scream but found her sound blocked but a cloth that had been tied around her mouth. This just made her want to scream even more.

She struggled against the ropes that held her. They dug into her wrists and legs, rubbing her pale skin raw. It was fruitless, the knots were tight and she was trapped. She yelled out again in frustration.

This could not be happening, not to her. She was a good person, a loving daughter, a kind friend. Things like this only happen to bad people, she was good. This isn't fair! She yelled in her head. After struggling for quite awhile she ran out of energy and drifted into an uncomfortable sleep. Her head hung on her chest and her legs were stuck at an uncomfortable angle.

Fey woke for the second time in this strange place to find it was morning, and bright sunshine was shining through the foggy windows. She was freezing cold by this time and was shivering in the coat she was thankfully still wearing. This time because of the light she was able to get a better look around. It appeared to her she was in some sort of workshop, and there was her mom's car!

Mom! She would be worried sick about her, thought Fey. Indeed she was. When Fey's mom, Charol, got outside and found the car gone her first thought was not that Fey had taken the car but rather that Fey had been taken. This showed the loving relationship between the mother and daughter. Charol had gone to the police right away and within an hour they had search teams out looking for her
"We're doing everything we can." Assured a young police officer.
Fey's father had come straight to the police station, he and his wife sat in the office all night, refusing to leave until they heard something of their daughter.

Meanwhile, Fey was yet again trying to break free. She had removed her gloves to try and untie the ropes, but with no success. Now her fingers were going numb from cold. She shivered and sobbed and tried to yell, but nothing saved her. After trying for hours she loosened her muscles and leaned her head up against the wall. She was spent and had to more tears to cry. Her throat was raw from blocked screams and she was hungrier that she had ever been in her life.

Zack had got up early in an attempt to get to the girl and back before his parents were up, but the sun had already risen. When he stumbled dreary eyed into the kitchen his dad was sitting at the table watching the news.
"Hey." Said Zack.
"Oh... hi." Responded his dad his eyes glued to the television.
Zack prepared himself breakfast.
"Horrible thing." Murmured his father.
"What is?" Asked Zack, against his better judgement. He generally avoided engaging his father in conversation.
"Look." Said his dad turning up the volume on the television.
"... Fey Ellens disappeared last night at approximately 7:00, she stayed behind in her mom's car, when her mother, Charol Ellens, returned to the parking lot she discovered the car and her daughter were missing." The screen showed the drugmart he had been to just last night, it felt like an eternity away.
"She's a lovely girl, she would never take off. Besides she couldn't see well enough. She broke her glasses yesterday, can hardly see a thing without them." Said a pretty woman. Zack assumed this was Fey's mom. Fey. It all became so much more real now she had a name.
"We're all hoping for Fey's safe return home, if you have any information on this girl's whereabouts please, do not hesitate to call the police." Finished the news lady, she then moved on to a story about a murder in the area, but Zack had stopped paying attention.

Zack grabbed a loaf of stale bread and walked out of the kitchen. He grabbed his coat and headed down to the garage, appreciating the long walk as it gave him time to think things through. By the time he arrived he had made up his mind, he wasn't letting her go. There was still the chance she would find a way to get him caught whether she could see or not. It just wouldn't work, he told himself. So he arrived at the garage determined.

The door opened, Fay raised her head weakly, she had wasted what little energy she had trying to free herself. He was back, at least she thought so. The boy in the doorway was the same height as the one in the car, and his coat was the same color. He crossed the room and dropped a loaf of bread at her feet.
"Make it last." He said. "It's all you'll be getting for a while."
She looked at him, now that he was this close she could start to make out some of the details of his face. He had longish brown hair that fell in his eyes, thick brows and full lips. Good, now when she got out she could describe him, at least vaguely to the police.

Zack stormed out of the garage soon after arriving. When he looked at her he had a sudden flashback. Fey went to his school, they had been in the same gym class yesterday. Dang. Now what, he was going to have to go through the whole day pretending to be politely confused and concerned, even though he knew exactly where she was. School was going to suck much more than usual.

When he was sure and gone Fey leaned down and struggled to open the bread bag. She then realized a cloth was over her mouth. Her heart sank with disappointment, she wasn't eating today.

Zack was right, that day was the starting of the worst days of his life. The whole school was buzzing about Fey, she was well liked if not popular, plus her dad was an important businessman. Rumors were flying, she had run away, she had eloped, she had been kidnapped, she had an enemy who wanted her dead, and there stood Zack in the middle of it all the only one who knew the truth. Anyone who had seen Fey yesterday found themselves being questioned by all. Around mid-day Zack caught sight of Fey's best friend Bailey. She looked a wreck, her eyes were red and puffy, she was pale and had this look of permanent shock and confusion on her face.

Bailey hadn't found out about Fey until she got to school. Fey was supposed to pick her up that day and when she didn't Bailey assumed she was running late. So she called Fey's cell phone only to get an answering machine. Bailey took her parents van, and when she got to school, Laura and Cassidy, her friends came running over in tears.
"It's just terrible isn't it!" Yelled Cassidy flinging herself into a hug with Bailey.
"What is?" Said Bailey a sinking feeling in her stomach.
"Fey's missing." Said Laura forlornly.
"What?!" Yelled Bailey. It wasn't a very calming way to find out about the disappearance of her best friend.

While Zack may have had a terrible day trying to hide everything that he knew, Fey's day was infinitely worse. she only got hungrier as the day went on, and there was food sitting right at her feet but she couldn't even eat it. She fidgeted and tried again and again to loosen the ropes. Honestly, that boy must have been a scout at some point to tie these knots so well. The ground was cold and hard. But worse than the physical pains was her thoughts. She kept thinking of her family, of her friends and then she'd shiver and think, "What if he never let's me go?"

At some point during the day she came to the sudden realization that she knew her kidnapper. Zack. The quiet boy who was always in the back of the class. She didn't know him well, and they hadn't spoken more than a couple polite words to each other, but there was no doubt that was his voice she heard the first night, and again this morning.

By the end of the day Fey had deep cuts in her wrists and legs from rubbing against the ropes, she was angry and tired, and waiting impatiently for her captor to return. But he didn't come, and yet again she was left to sleep on the floor, hungry and alone.
