She ran. She didn’t know where she was or where she was all she knew was, she needed to run. The man had told her, the man in the first dream, a few nights ago a strange young man told her to ‘RUN’ when it came, whatever that meant, but now it had happened, it had come. The ‘Thing’ six legs and huge teeth, racing after her, she didn’t know what it was all she had to do was run.

The Alarm went off. Kate Henrys sat up, shocked and gasping. It had gotten clearer, the thing had gotten clearer, she wasn’t sure how long ago she started having the dreams, maybe a week, or two or maybe even three, she didn’t know or care, it was here, she had seen more about it, it had glowing red eyes, what kind of thing had those except for something produced by the Devil itself.

‘What was that?’ She said starting to calm down, she hopped up.

She turned off the alarm still blearing away, she walked into her kitchen and grabbed some cereal, still in her nightie, she sat down and sighed suddenly she heard the phone go off. She picked it up.

‘Hello?’ she said sleepily.

‘Katie? Hi it’s mum’

‘Oh. Hi mum.’

It wasn’t her boyfriend; she hadn’t seen or heard from him in 2 weeks, he was useless she knew that, but she never knew it this much, he was nice and all but in a way he was a real git. All he cared about was cars and leather jackets he was like one of those horrible evil people in the movies who got shot down then the main character (usually a girl) got together with a nice young man and lived happily ever after, but with Rob that was never ever, ever going to happen.

‘Why do you sound so disappointed?’ her mum asked her sounding stern but worried at the same time.

‘Rob’

‘I told you young lady you need to ditch him he’s no good for you, he’s to self-centred’

‘But I love him mum’ but she knew she didn’t she was doing what she always does lie to make herself happy, but it wasn’t working.

‘Don’t give me any of that nonsense young lady you know you don’t and you never have or will.’

‘Ok mum when I hear from him again I’ll dump him’

‘Good girl. So what’s new?’

‘Nothing, just about to head off to work’

‘Ok I’ll leave that to you talk to you later’

‘Bye mum’ she put down the phone and left to her bedroom after finishing breakfast. She walked out of her house, fully dressed in smart, respectable  clothes she stared across the street at a man, in a long grey coat, a dark waistcoat and a blue bowtie, walking along the road staring into every car he came up to, then he stopped looked up at her and smiled. She ran. She kept running and running until she got her work. She worked at the Department of Problems she helped people, it was her job.

She walked into her office, she worked a little way away from home, but that didn’t bother her, she had time to talk to herself, about the man and the dream. When she walked into her office the phone rang, she walked over to her desk, sat down and got comfortable before she picked it up.

‘Hello?’ she whispered cautiously into the phone.

‘Hello!’ a voice responded back, it was a man’s voice, sounded like early twenties, or thirties or maybe forties, she couldn’t decide, but he sounded familiar. ‘Is this Kate Henrys?’
