The Light

The echo from the door closing reverberated around the dark room.

Madi stood up.

"Alex?"

There was frantic banging on the other side of the door. Madi ran towards it.

"Alex!" she yelled, "What happened?"

When the banging continued and there was no answer, Madi figured that the room must be somewhat soundproof.

"Well, if he can't hear us, then we'll have to figure another way out," Madi thought aloud, "There has to be another way out right?"

She went over to where Lisa was still lying unconscious. She felt for a pulse.

There was a definite one there. Lisa was still alive, good. Next, Madi checked for cuts, gashes, or visible wounds. No thing she could find.

The cut on Lisa's hand however had been wrapped in some sort of gauze. Madi examined it thinking that there was something else going on here.

That's when she noticed that the banging on the door had stopped.

Madi stood up and walked over to it with her flashlight in hand. She felt around the edge of the door with her free hand.

"Alex are you out there?" She called one more time to make certain the room was soundproof.

When there was no answer, she backed away and looked for a way to escape: a button, lever, pully system, something. However, there was nothing she could find.

She went back to where Lisa was. Looking around to see what she could find.

Suddenly, her flashlight went out.

"Out of batteries! Unbelievable. Great!" Madi said annoyed.

She stood for a moment calming down and trying to figure out what to do. She checked one more time to see if Lisa was okay.

Lisa was still breathing. A good sign.

When Madi looked up, there was a light coming from the back of the room. She stood up and started walking towards it, grabbing a wooden bat she found leaning against the wall.

When she reached the light source, she stopped and carefully opened the box that was letting light slip through.

She froze when she saw what was inside.

It was small, emitted a lot of light had no definite shape, and had a note next to it scrawled in neat handwriting.

The not said: "Reece, you've been a huge help and I appreciate it, but you know too much now. Figure this out if you dare, but don't forget: you're answer is there.
Sincerely,
J  k    Ze  n      "

The last line was worn and only some of the letters appeared to Madi in the dim light.

What does this mean? Is there an answer to get out?

Madi stared at the object in wonder. It was a beautiful warm gold color.

And then everything went black.

Madi started to panic, but kept her head on.

She realized that she could no longer see where the small window was that had been giving her light to see.

She crept slowly. Feeling the floor with her feet to be sure she wouldn't run into anything.

When she nudged Lisa with her foot she stopped.

Madi sat down next to Lisa and decided that whatever happened, she would make sure Lisa got out of the house alive.

While she was sitting there, she decided to get some rest quick and when she woke up get some light.

Madi was on the verge of sleep when she was awoken by sudden banging on the door to the room.
