Hi! I'M Monty The Helpful Ghost
Poor Monty has been chased away by the other ghosts in the deserted castle. 'Go, go, you are a disgrace to us ghosts. What kind of a ghost are you, always wanting to help the kids.'
Monty is sad, but also glad, to leave the horrible, nasty, wicked ghosts. He decides to go and live in the attic of the village school. The next day Monty sits at a desk right at the back of the class. The kids can't see him because he is invisible. The kids are making a noise as the teacher has not yet arrived. Monty can see through the classroom walls and sees the teacher coming down the corridor. Monty flies to the front and opens the classroom door. The kids are quiet instantly. Then he shuts the door just before the teacher reaches the door and comes in. The teacher is puzzled, he was sure that the door was open. The teacher is strict and the kids are scared of him. As he comes in they stand and say, 'Good Morning, Sir.
'
Good Morning, and take out the homework I gave you yesterday.' Then he goes and sits down at his desk. Just then a thin little boy with big black glasses comes in.
'I'm sorry I'm late Sir."
'You again, this is the second time this week you are late. Come here!' he shouts. 'Come bend, I will teach you to be late in my class.'
Monty stares as the big teacher gets ready to hit the little boy. Joe has got tears in his eyes as he bends in front of the teacher. His mother is sick and he has to help his little sisters before he can come to school.
As the teacher prepares to hit Joe, Monty flies behind the teacher and grabs the cane. The teacher grabs the cane back and prepares to hit Joe. Monty grabs the cane again but this time flies with the cane around the class. Nobody can see Monty because he is a ghost. All they see is the flying cane. Everybody stares then Monty decides to teach the teacher a lesson and flies down to give him one good shot on his bum with the cane. The teacher screams in terror and runs out of the class never to come back again.
The following day a young and kind teacher replaced him. The story spread far and wide, everybody came to investigate the magic cane, but could find no magic, just an ordinary cane. Joe was happy because after he told the teacher about his sick mother, she said he could come in later but he had to make sure that his school work was kept up to date. Monty was happy too but sad that he could not join the kids at play. He so much wanted to play ball with them.
Watch out for the next Monty book and how his wish is granted when one little boy can see him and they become friends.
