ㄴ/은/는 데도
This grammar pattern can be used to introduce a clause that indicates an opposite or an unexpected state of affairs when compared to the information given in the preceding clause. It has the same meaning as ‘although’ or ‘even though'.
Adj:
•과거 (past): ~ 았/었는데도
•현재 (now): ~ ㄴ/은데도Verb:
•과거: ~ 았/었는데도
•현재: ~ 는데도Noun이다:
•과거 (past): Noun + 였/이었는데도
•현재 (now): Noun + 인데도 (even though)Note that this pattern can't be used with future tense, imperative, or suggestive ending.
Example sentences:
더운데도 밖에서 일을 해야 해요.
deoundedo bakk-eseo il-eul haeya haeyo
Although it’s hot, we still have to work outside.계속 잤는데도 감기가 낫지 않아요.
gyesog jassneundedo gamgiga nasji anh-ayo.
Even though I keep sleeping, the cold is not getting better.제인은 미국 사람인데도 한국 사람처럼 한국말을 잘해.
jein-eun migug salam-indedo hangug salamcheoleom hangugmal-eul jalhae.
