The Hunted

CHAPTER 4: ON THE RUN

A loud yelp knocked me back to my consciousness,it was the cry of my dad."Dad!" I cried out as I yanked the door open,I peeped into the darkness and saw nothing.I tried hard to fight back the tears forming in my eyes,I didn't want to believe that my dad was dead,gnawed by two vicious creatures.

It was an undeserving death for a great man like my dad.It was all my fault,if only I had gone against all odd and helped him.I sluggishly retreated into the shack and was about to close the door when I saw my dad approach the door,limping.I was taken aback by the sight of him as I wasn't expecting to see him alive with his body parts still in place.

How did he escape the two creatures?? I was about to find out.Quickly,I rushed towards him and gave him a bear hug."I was afraid I had lost you" I said,as tears trickled down my cheeks."Its alright,am here son" he said softly as he patted my back.I helped him inside and shut the door.

I could still hear the groaning of the two creatures,it seems they had turned on each other.I laid my dad on the floor as I accessed his wounds.He looked fine except for few claw scratches and some bruises.It was a miracle he still had his limbs still attached to his body.

"What happened out there?" I asked as I tried to clean his wounds to prevent it from getting infected.Grandpa who was an herbalist once thought me the simple way of preventing injuries from getting infected,I didn't need herbs to perform the task.
"I was lucky" my dad said " The creature that attacked you was my saving grace.After finding out that the werewolf wasn't ready to share its meal,it got pissed and they both got into a scuffle.That was how I escaped." I stared at my dad for a moment hoping he had no internal injuries,because of the ferocity at which the werewolf flung him while on the verge of getting to the shack.I still was surprised at how he escaped without much injuries.

It certainly wasn't luck,it was grace...I thought.
