Mari's POV
I hop out of the window and land on my feet. I've done this a bunch of times now, so I'm used to it. I zip up my black leather jacket and cross my arms in front of me. It's cold as hell out here tonight but hey it's better than being in lockdown in that house. I walk towards the street and hail a taxi.
"Hey Sam," I say as I hop in.
"Hello Ms. DeSanta," he says with a Jersey accent. "Where am I driving ya tonight?"
"Mmmm, that new club down the street. What's it called again?"
"Oh you're talking about Vogue?" he asks.
"Yeah, I think that's it."
Sam starts driving the car and I buckle my seatbelt. "We'll be there in like 10 minutes," he says while looking at me through the rearview window.
I give him a thumbs up and he smiles at me. Sam's my fave taxi driver. He drives me basically everywhere when I get the chance to sneak out and get away from my over protective brother Will. He smothers me like a little kid. I am 21 now ya know? I can't deal with him smothering me anymore.
Ever since our parents died he's been super duper protective over me. I can just walk outside for a couple minutes and he will start yelling at me. I'm just like dude calm your fucking tits. Nothing's going to happen to me. And then he will say the same old crappy line every time "You're a DeSanta. Everyone wants your head on a stick Mari. They want you dead." And then I say "Well if they really wanted me dead so badly I would already be dead wouldn't I?" I say before laughing. Then his face turns red. "You're impossible," he'll say EVERY SINGLE TIME. Then I just laugh at him as he storms out of my room and slams the door behind him. He has such a fucking temper. But, I guess I do too. We both got it from dad.
The car comes to a stop and I pull money from out of my purse. "How many times do I have to tell you Ms. DeSanta? You don't have to pay me."
I shove the 20 dollar bill in his hand anyway. "Keep the change Sam. See ya later." As I open up the door I hear Sam sigh and I shut the door. I walk towards the door with a smile on my face ready to go inside this club.
I walk into the club and everyone's eyes turn towards me. They all step back so that they form a perfect line for me to walk through. I mean I know that I have on a cute outfit tonight, but that's not the reason why they are so 'terrified' of me. Since I am a DeSanta people think I am an angry little bitch and that I will kill anyone in my way. Ha, I laugh every time I hear that. I admit, I am a tough chick but they always mistake me for my brother or father. But, I'm really nothing like them at all.Our family is one of the most powerful gangs in Jersey. There's another gang called the Malik's who are almost as powerful as us...but, not quite. We have been fighting each other for control of the drug world for years I heard from my father. I haven't heard anything else about them since mom and dad died. Will doesn't tell me shit...
Two gangs, specializing in the same line of work causes a lot of conflict. We both own different areas of Jersey and as long as we don't cross into each other's territories, we can tolerate one another. But, I don't give a shit about that crap. I do what I want.I walk over to the bar and wait for someone to hand me a drink. The bartender's hand is shaking as he hands me the drink.
"You know I don't bite?" I laugh. The guys sets the drink down carefully in front of me and runs off. I used to think people running away from me was weird, but now I'm used to it. That's everyday life for me.
