Chapter 16: My Secret's & My Butterfly

"Happiness is like a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always beyong our grasp, but if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you." -Nathaniel Hawthorne

I looked at her questionably as I poured out my orange juice in the morning. "I don't think that's a good idea Mom."

"I think it a brilliant idea and I don't care what you think. This is my house and there forth my party." She explained to me childishly. I place my hand on my face and took a deep breath as to shake my headache away. Rationalizing what today was going to end up like I took the rest of my orange juice and left. My mother yelled loudly from behind. "I left you costume on your bed. Please find Cecilia and Violet and tell them for me. I've already told Elizabeth so you don't need to tell her! "

A groan came out as I made my way outside with a book in hand. Knowing Matthew was outside and most likely by the stupid bench, meant that Cecilia was there too. Since she was near my vicinity, I chose to inform her instead. When I turned the corner I expected to see her arms wrapped around Matthew like always, but stopped short from where he usually sat, and was shocked to see something completely different. There were papers scattered all over the garden and the white table that Matthew sat by was toppled over. His precious computer screen was cracked.

My eyes lowered to the sight that beheld me. Matthew was on top of my sister, his hands resting on each side of her face. He was huffing, his face was red. Cecilia grinned underneath, her arms draped around his neck to bring him closer to her face. I gasped as they both glanced up to look at me. Cecilia smiled giddily, while Matthew stared back at her. I blinked back a bit as an emotion that I didn't understand ran through my body. What were they doing? What was she think? My mind was forced to numb itself. My body was petrified against the wind, I had to break the silence. "Mom wants me to tell you that we are going to have a Halloween party tonight. She said you can invite whoever you like."

All I could do was turn around and evade what was in front of me. My heart was boiling over, and I didn't know why.

"Anyone we like. So I assume you're inviting Shane."

I stopped in the middle of my tracks and closed my eyes tightly. Summoning up the courage to turn around, I faced her coy look. Matthew's eyes suddenly harden. My eyes pierce at where Cecilia's hand rested, until Matthew look down himself. He quickly glared and looked up stared at me with an unreadable expression. My voice cracked as I tried my best to hold back a bitterness I was not aware of.

"Yes, Shane's coming. I plan to have fun."

I turned around and made my way towards Violet's room forcing my hands into a tight fist. There was an angry that over took me at the idea that Cecilia believed she could control a situation. It wasn't my fault I was going to marry her crush and it certainly didn't give her the audacity to pretend he belonged to her.

God damn, he was mine.

The sudden though clenched at my chest, when I had to stopped at the anxiety of that upheaval sentence. My mind tried to disregard everything, but then my anger quietly turned into something more dejected. Yes, I knew there was only financial gain for the both of us, and nothing more than that. It didn't mean he could two-time me with my sister. My sister of all people, really? Ugh, is he's really nothing but a man-whore. So with that though, I took out my phone to dial a number. Violet's door was wide open as I stalked passed it angrily. She was on the bed and looked up from her laptop to tilt her head at me.

"Hey, It's me." I said through the phone.

"Hey Evie, what's up?" The sound of his voice calmed me in an instant.
