I look back on that fateful day
That day our lines were intertwined
By a little fish who was playing around
Unknowingly brought a certain change
Within the two guarded hearts
At first the days were filled with careful fishing
But quickly grew to playful teasing
This in turn progressed to endearing fondness
There was not a day that goes by
Where the lines have not met
An unexpected storm blew in all of a sudden
And the lines were forced to drift apart for a time.
The lake that was once filled with happiness and love
A frozen chill took over and silent ice quickly spread
The trapped water underneath grew dark and thick
I was a fool to let the ice creep over the lake
Preventing our lines from rekindling what was lost
I was afraid to come out and cast my line to you
Afraid of creating a storm of my own which we can’t recover
Feared that I will only bring misery and tears to your eyes
And yet here I find you beside the lake
Weeping warm tears against the brutal frost
Letting them fall on the solid ice
Trying desperately to melt it with them
All because I withdrew my line from yours
So here I am filled with regret and on bended knees
In the middle of the freezing ice that encircled me
With tears of my own flowing freely down my face
Obscuring my sight from viewing your beauty
Beauty that should never be marred by tears
I ask for forgiveness as the ice swallows my form
With a single promise encompassed by silver
To stand by your side eternally
And learn how love
As sweet as a young rose
Can be so true
