Spitfire One-Shots Chapter 19

8 Days before Christmas

Day 8

Artemis and Wally were always late shoppers, long before they met each other. For starters, they both had more pressing matters growing up than finding the perfect Christmas present, even more so, when they joined the team. And, they were always too lazy to start earlier.

Inspired by their conversation the day before, combined with the holidays sneaking closer, they decided to get each other presents. They had an idea in their minds for a while, they just had to execute their plans.

So with almost week left, they decided to go shopping together, but separately. It's unnecessarily uncomplicated, they could have both gone separately. Regardless, they went to the mall again, it was more packed than it was a few days ago, with desperate shoppers.

"I'll meet you back here in an hour." Artemis told Wally before they separated.

Artemis wanted to get him something comical. Not really a gag gift, but something he would appreciate and laugh about at the same time. She had a very vague sense of what she was going to get him.

On the contrary, Wally had a more specific plan in comparison to his girlfriend, but still pretty vague. He wanted something that symbolized their past, and their former alter egos. He thought of it because of their conversation from the day before, about leaving a life of crime fighting behind.

It was a tough decision for both of them. They liked making a difference, and helping put criminals behind bars. It was satisfying, and they had so much fun with the team. But as they got together, their fear of each other in danger blinded them.

Wally was on edge every time Artemis went on a mission without him. He was restless until she came back safely, and it was the same for Artemis. They wanted a chance at a normal life, together. He wanted to give her something to remind of their past and how they first met.

He had to text Dick for some advice on what he can get. His best friend told him he was busy and to figure it out himself. Wally frowned and racked his brain for ideas when he realized the internet existed.

In the end he didn't need it because he walked by a store and something in the window caught his eye. It was a simple necklace, gold with an arrow charm. It was perfect. The only problem was finding it. He searched the entire store, but the necklace only seemed to be on the display window.

It took a lot of persuading and waiting patiently from Wally to get a sale's attendant attention and cooperation. There was only one last necklace in the back, and he was able to get it. He almost got into an argument with someone else over the necklace.

The important thing is that Wally finally got it. All he had left was to gift wrap it, his very own kryptonite.

He had to go to three other stores to find someone to help him wrap the necklace.

Artemis had a much harder time finding a funny present for Wally

Artemis had a much harder time finding a funny present for Wally. After her original search, she considered getting him his favorite food, everything. Although he would find her gift almost immediately, he always looks in the fridge.

Artemis was wandering around aimlessly from store to store, hoping something would catch her eye. Nothing did for a while, until she went into a store that sold superhero merchandise. She went in there for fun, not expecting to find anything.

And then she saw it. At first glance it may not seem like anything special, green pajamas with Green Arrow symbols on it. They were fleece, more than enough to keep him warm at night. He always bought her Kid Flash sleepwear because he said she looked cute in his logo.

She would love to see his face when he opens his present. And if Artemis knew her boyfriend at all, he would laugh when he saw it. Plus, he needed some new pajamas anyway. She quickly asked the cashier to wrap the present.

The hour was almost over, with the spare time she had, Artemis went to buy herself a pretzel, meeting Wally on the way. They both hid their presents in the bags and kept it out of the line of sight of the other.

It was a little awkward for both of them, because they couldn't ask if they what they got. It goes against all of the rules. They did tell each other how they were fortunate enough to find something in the short time span they had.

When the couple came home, they still had one thing to do, hide the presents from each other. And they both tried to do it at the same time without telling each other what they were doing. Any normal person would just put the presents under the tree, but this was Artemis and Wally, they didn't trust each other enough to not see what was inside.

Artemis first hid hers underneath the bed, and left quickly thinking Wally would never check there because he never made the bed. Wally hid it in the same place a few minutes after Artemis left, thinking they somehow never vacuum under there, so there's no reason to look.

As Artemis realized she forgot to put her purse in the bedroom, she walked into see Wally crouched under the bed. She panicked thinking her found her hiding spot. He hit his head on the spring underneath the bed when he saw her shoes and thought she discovered his hiding spot.

"How did you find my present?" They said at the same time. Artemis clutched the gift she got for Wally in her hands while she watched Wally do the same to her present.

"That was my hiding spot!" The couple said in usion. It took them a little bit to understand what was going on. Artemis was the first one to double over in laughter. Wally joined in a second later.

In the end, they still decided to place both of them under the bed, as a reminder of this moment.

A/N: Another chapter, just a few hours later. This chapter took me much longer than anticipated. I might post another chapter in the middle of the night, I might stay up to get finish Day 7, and possibly Day 6, that way I have less to write tomorrow. And I'm considering making the chapters shorter to help me write them faster. We'll see how that turns out.

Let me know in the comments if you liked their presents for each other. And don't forget to vote, comment and share this story!!
