*Nathan POV*
As soon as the elevator doors closed, a smile crept across my face. The elevator descended to the bottom floor, creaking the entire way down, but the smile didn't fade.
I walked back to Jack and Madison's car and found Madison standing outside of it already with the door open. She smiled smugly as I walked up and climbed in, then she got back in.
I leaned forward between Jack and Madison, "I thought tonight wasn't supposed to be a setup."
Jack shook his head, "I never said that.. in those words."
"You said, and I quote, 'No Nate we're not trying to set you up again, we have an extra ticket,' those were your exact words."
He shrugged, not even bothering to argue, "Whatever Nate, you're the one who almost knocked that guy out," he looked over at me quickly, "which was awesome by the way," he laughed.
I rolled my eyes but smiled, "It was no big deal."
Madison turned around in her seat and looked at me, "You had fun, just admit it. You like her, we all know it."
I couldn't help but smile and nod, "Yeah I did have fun, it's been an eventful first week back. And Paige is great."
Madison smiled, "I know, she's my best friend. We missed you Nathan, are you here for good this time?"
I laughed, "Yeah I think it's time to be home for good." In that moment I realized how grateful I was for Jack and Madison. They've always been there for me and supported me. I just really hoped that this setup wouldn't end in disaster, I cringed remembering the last girl they insisted I should meet, Madison's cousin or something.
We finally pulled up to my house and I climbed out awkwardly. I can't stand this stupid tiny car I thought annoyed.
After I finally made it out, Madison smiled and gave me a quick hug, then got back into the car and rolled her window down, "Thanks for coming along tonight," she smiled as Jack took her hand.
I leaned down and looked into the window, "Thanks for making me go, I had a lot of fun."
Jack nodded, "We're having a small cookout tomorrow, you should come. Hayley misses her Uncle Nate, it'll be fun."
I nodded quickly, "I'll be there."
"So will Paige," Madison added quickly and smirked.
I shook my head and laughed, "Goodnight guys," I turned and walked up to the house and heard them both shout their goodnights as I walked in.
After a quick shower, I slipped on a pair of flannel pajama pants and sat down to watch TV but my mind kept wandering. Paige seemed so familiar, but I knew we'd never spoke, I couldn't have forgotten that. My thoughts eventually drifted to my dad, he'd been in and out of prison Jack and I's entire childhood and his last offense ten years ago still had him planted in a cell.
He ruined everything, he always did.
