My head pounded. My heart ached. In the middle of the scene I was again. My parents, infuriated at the thought of each other. It was so common that it felt as the norm nowadays. However, today just wasn't the day for me to take it in once again. I bust my door open and blast into the kitchen. I hid behind the wall slightly peeking an eye out and tuned in.
"Harold i've had enough! It's everyday with you, yet I keep giving you endless chances of pleasure. Why can't you just accept what I want to do? I'm just so exhausted of you hinting at every single move I make. Why can't you just stop?"
"There you go again Kate, blaming this all on me when you're so blind that you can't see the fact that more than half that is happening with us is your fault. You can't see that I just want us to be a healthy pair. A healthy pair who can trust each other, and not have to follow one's companion's every step. I just want you to myself Kate. That was the point of this blissful marriage."
"I don't know what to say anymore Harold. I love you and always will, but you being this controlling is eating me alive. I just can't take this anymore."
"I've only been trying to protect you dear. You know that. We both know that. You've just been so ignorant to my words lately. It's like i'm talking to a brick wall. You're so strong to get through to, and that's all i've been trying to do." They looked each other in the eyes and i could see the deep sorrow my mom had. "I'm so sorry Harold. This was all a mistake, I was a mistake. You, Maya, and Josh deserve so much better. I can't bring you guys happiness anymore. You all hate me. Let's face it Harold. You don't need me, you never have. You guys are better off without me. Maya hasn't talked to me in weeks, and i've tried so hard to even get a simple greeting from her. I haven't seen Josh in the house in like a month. Can't you see? I'm the worst mother and partner anyone could ever have. I don't deserve anything. I admit it." She automatically burst into tears. "Kate, please don't say this to yourself, we all love you, and we just don't want you to make these horrible choices. Please stay, it won't be the same without you" he said worryingly. "I'm afraid I can't."
With that, she ran out of the kitchen, flung the front door open, and left.
Those were the last words I would ever hear from my mother. I peered out of the wall to catch my father shed into tears. I had never seen him like this. It gave me the most painful feeling I could ever have. I slowly made my way up to him, and as I walked we made direct eye contact. "Is she really gone?" I asked in tears. "I don't know honey, I don't know. But all I know, is that I love you Maya, and nothing that happens could ever change that." For the rest of the night, My father and I lay on the couch. I fell asleep with my head placed on his chest. I cried hysterically until morning light came through. Nothing felt the same anymore.
