You're Never Gonna Leave Him
"What are you doing?" She asked herself as she drove down the dark street, headed for that house. "You got no reason being over here tonight. You need to throw this house key right out the window and turn this car around. Why can't you just get over it? You're just making it harder."
She shook her head and kept driving.
"I just need to see the house one last time," She told herself. Just one last time.
"You're acting silly," The other part of her said. "You're never gonna leave him like this. You can't keep going back to him over and over again. You have to let go sometime."
The tears came then. They came and rolled down her face like a waterfall.
"Turn around," That part of her brain that was thinking logically said. "Turn this car around right now."
"Just once," The other part of her said. The part that couldn't move on. The part that was still hanging on. "I need to see it just once."
"Did you forget last April?" The logical part of herself said. "Remember when he swore that he'd be faithful to you? Then he was seeing her again two months later."
"But he said he'll always love me," That part of her heart that hadn't fully healed said. "Always. He said he'd never stop."
"I know and you may always love him but you know what? You can never trust him."
She looked out the window as she passed his house. The lights were all on but she couldn't see him. The tears kept falling and she kept wondering if she should march right into that house and say she wanted him back.
"No," She told herself. "You're never gonna leave him like this."
She backed up the car, threw the house key out the window and drove off.
