Stranger In The Forests

I was seven.
Seven when I found it.
Seven when I found a forest.
A forest I never thought I'd visit in my entire life.
The Forest was my entire life between some trees and dirt.
When I felt unloved, I went to the forest. That forest was my safe place. And it was all mine. Until a year went by.

Unknowingly, I saw him. A little boy, near my age, was crying, with his back against a stump. I was seven, so at that age I wasn't very shy. So I went up to him.

"What's wrong?" I say standing in front of him.
"It happened again." Said the boy without making eye contact.
"What happened again?" I said.
"Them. They always do this." Said the boy.
"Who?"
"My mom and dad. They're fighting."
"Why?" Said my curious 7yr old self.
"My dad did something very bad, but I don't know what he did. They wouldn't tell me."
"It'll be okay."
"How do you know?" Said the boy while he wiped his eyes.
"I just do."
"How do I know I can trust you?"
"Because I'm nice!"
Seven year olds are so cocky.
"Lets be friends!" I said as I sit next to the boy.
"Okay, I can bring snacks!" Said the boy who I still had no information of.
"Yes!!" I said clapping both hands together.
"Wait, what's your name?" I say.
"I'm Jake! What's yours?"
"I'm Lexi!"
"Nice to meet you, Lexi!" Said the boy as he put his hand out for me to shake.
"Nice to meet you too, Jake."

We played for hours, and everyday we'd bring toys and food. We scared birds, and tried wild berries we found on bushes. We got poison Ivey. But, we had fun. The boy had problems, but he understood me. And little did I know we'd be best friends forever.

~11 years later~

"Mom I'm gonna be late for school! Jakes picking me up and I'm going to be late for the third time!!"I say stuffing random papers in my bag.
"Okay honey, Have a nice day! Love ya"
"Bye mom!"

"Lex! You're finally on time!!" Jake says sarcastically.
"Haha very funny! Now step on the gas, Kevin Hart. Were gonna be late!"
"Relax, its only 7:30." Says Jake.
"School starts in 20 minutes, smartass. Let's go!!"
